Saint of the Day Quote: Saint Basilides

Martyr of Egypt, defender of St. Potomiana. Basilides was a soldier of the guard of the prefect of Egypt. When involved in the execution of St. Potomiana, he defended her against a mob. Receiving the faith, Basilides was also martyred.

Basilides and Potamiaena were Christian martyrs now venerated as saints. Both died in Alexandria during the persecutions under Septimus Severus.
