Move Over God, It’s Shea

Hattip to commenter Nate Winchester.

Bring no more vain offerings;
GOP prayer breakfasts are an abomination to me.
Press conferences and the NRA rallies—
I cannot endure iniquity and CPAC assembly.
Your thoughts and prayers
my soul hates;
they have become a burden to me,
I am weary of bearing them.
When you spread forth your hands,
I will hide my eyes from you;
even though you make many prayers,
I will not listen;
your hands are full of blood.
Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean;
remove the evil of your doings
from before my eyes;
cease to do evil,
learn to do good;
seek justice,
correct oppression;
defend the fatherless,
plead for the widow. (Is 1:13–17)

And if, as I am sometimes told, such adaptations of Scripture to present circumstances offends you, permit me to add:

Woe to you, MAGA liars and Gun Cult pettifoggers, hypocrites! for you devour elementary schoolkids in mass slaughters and for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you will receive the greater condemnation. Woe to you, MAGA liars and Gun Cultists, hypocrites! for you obsess over trivialities like paraphrasing scripture, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, justice and mercy and faith. You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel! (Matthew 23:14, 23-24)

Go here to see these ravings in their native habitat.  I guess there are greater blasphemies than turning God into a sock puppet for your political opinions, but they do not come readily to my mind right now.

Some things are just not worth wasting the bytes on. This is one of them.

Democrats…

I was called a “racist” for voting for someone who did his best to stop the slaughter of children in the womb, especially black children.

Now I’m said to be in league with an evil child murderer because I belong to a target rifle league.

A set of wind chi9mes is a hurricane is more intellectually vital.

I have not wasted one second of the past 20 years reading that ass hat’s BS.

Mac Beth, “. . . so much activity and passion and strife that feels so urgent and necessary—but it ultimately signifies nothing.”

I’m calling it: within five years Shea will rewrite scripture to condemn anyone who doesn’t support homosexual relationships as good and natural.

I truly despise Democrats, especially those masquerading as Christian (whether Catholic, Orthodox or Protestant). But I just don’t have the energy to invest in hating them the way in which Mark Shea hates us. The man is surely demonically oppressed (I did NOT say “possessed” – there’s a difference). And yes, Rudolph is correct: sooner or later Shea will openly support sodomy because to do otherwise is unkind in his view. If the subject matter weren’t so serious, we should all be laughing at Shea – how he now completely contradicts all he said a decade or two ago.

Shea’s mind is as twisted as Gollum’s.

Lucius, he all but did. It was about ten to a dozen years ago thereabouts and a good friend of his who was openly gay passed away. Mark posted about him, and then stated that his friend was a paragon of virtue and was clearly walking the streets of paradise as a saint. Mark’s readers, in those days, cautioned him that it’s not his to definitively say who is in heaven, especially someone living an openly sinful lifestyle. Mark amended his statement, chastised those who questioned the main’s sainthood as homophobic bigots (the first I recall him doing so), but did say perhaps the man was in a chaste homosexual relationship and it’s not for us to say. At that point he admitted he wished the Church would change its teachings on homosexuality altogether, though I don’t recall him saying it again. Now he seems to be leaning on the liberal Protestant approach to development of doctrine when discussing the topic.

If you recall David Morrison (Sed Contra), he stated that his domestic situation was of that character. As far as I can tell, he quite blogging in 2008. Last I heard, he lived in NoVa. I believe he’s now ~64 years old. He wrote a book in 1999 and had occasional speaking engagements over the next few years. The character of higher education now is such that I doubt he could complete engagements like that anywhere outside a small corps of Christian schools. Never knew what he did for a living other than he didn’t have a lot of financial margin.

No reason to believe he’s no longer alive (though I believe his cohort had a high mortality rate). Do not recall he had any particular association with M. Shea.

Mark’s position ten years ago on homosexuality was something like “I agree with the Church teaching that homosexual acts are sinful, but there are so many gay people who are otherwise virtuous that even if they are unrepentantly engaging in same-sex intercourse they are still probably great people overall.” But he would back off on it if called on it. And he would at least give lip service to Church teaching. Certainly if someone said “Catholic teaching forbids two men having sex without each other” he would agree and at worst say something like “of course we need to make sure that we aren’t unduly focusing on this one issue when there are many other sins in the world.”

My prediction is that within 5 years he will not only explicitly endorse homosexual relationships, including the sex involved, but that he will say that anyone who doesn’t agree with his new position is an evil, bigoted, christianist, MAGA cult, etc.

Shea might want to read First Corinthians 5. St. Paul made a very clear, very strong statement about Church discipline.

Today was a new one for him as he equated a picture of a gun as the same as a picture of demons. Guns are now demonic apparently.

His father was career military. I haven’t the insight to discern what sort of psychodrama is going on here.

I suspect his income from writing and speaking has been imploding for a considerable run of years, and what you’ve been reading is in part a function of his distress. (I’ve never been clear about how these characters earn a living. Amy Welborn once reported she received about $14,000 a year in royalties from her ‘Prove It’ series, and that was > 15 years ago). I’m not clear as to what the problems and solutions are to his domestic situation or what he ever did aside from write.

Shea is mentally unhinged/demon possessed. It gratifies me that others see it.
