The Buffalo mass murderer is mentally ill. The local authorities in his home town knew this, knew that he threatened mass murder, and did nothing. Now that he has carried out his repeated threats, there will no punishment for the local authorities for not doing their jobs. Instead, the vultures of the Left will do their worst to use this mass murder to claim one more victim: the Constitution.

Glenn Greenwald is no conservative, certainly not a religious conservative. 20 years ago the Left would have proudly called him one of its own. Now, he’s a pariah to the Left because he still believes in civil liberties (and the role of journalists in preserving them), like the Left allegedly used to. The beauty of Glenn is that he won’t be cancelled because he’s fearless. I enjoy his appearances on Tucker as much for those reasons as the substance he always brings to the discussion.

I suppose the local Sheriff in Broome County could have referred the threats to the DA’s office for prosecution. I think that might qualify as ‘harassment’ or ‘menacing’ per the Penal Law. If I’m understanding news reports correctly (and if the reports are correct), he was subject to psychiatric evaluations a couple of times in 2021. We don’t know what the evaluations said and civil commitment in New York for any period longer than a few days has to clear a high bar. I doubt he’d have been a candidate for l/t civil commitment 70 years ago, when it was vastly more common than it is now. I’m not seeing yet anything which indicates a psychiatric problem that could or should mitigate culpability. He was employed for at least four of the last eleven months. He finished high school. Neighbors told reporters he was unremarkable as far as they could see.
Were the system doing its job, the courts and the governor’s office would be done with this case in about six years and he’d be placed in front a firing squad at dawn in one of the parks in and around Erie County. There is no provision in the state penal law that would permit that, however, so the state will not do its job.
Jared Loughner’s parents had no other children. I dearly hope his do.

Ordered by the State Police after he threatened to shoot up his high school. After the head shrinkers did their usual useless waving of shaman sticks, nothing occurred. In Illinois a threat to shoot up a school could be prosecuted as a Class 3 Felony.

I’d have to check, but I think Menacing and Harassment are class B misdemeanors in New York.
I think the dirty secret about psychiatry is that they’re well compensated but do not accomplish much. I’m informed by the mother of the one I know best that her son routinely puts in 16 hour days. He sees a lot of patients because he and his wife have huge student loans they cannot seem to pay down. (I’m mean enough to suspect one reason for the long working hours is to spend less time with his family).

Such has been precisely my immediate family’s experience, Art. PhD or even Master’s degree therapists have been as helpful or more so than MD’s for the issues from which my relatives have suffered. I speak only from my limited direct knowledge, of course, but the main value of MD shrinks has been to prescribe medications, which overall have proven very effective in allowing one in particular to live an essentially normal life, who a century ago, or even less, likely would have spent many years in a psychiatric hospital. But again, on the “leather couch” side, I have seen very little from the MD’s that was any better than the non-MD psychologists have provided.
Remember how a a month ago we had a black nationalist shoot up a New York subway? Don’t expect to hear about that ever again if you live outside of New York, and even in New York only expect to hear procedural updates on his trial. And then there was that event in Waukesha last November…
The media’s reaction to mass shootings goes like this:
-If the shooter can be identified as a white man or Christian with white supremacist or religious motivations, they will proclaim this as loudly as possible. This is a rare event though.
-More commonly they will try to force those motivations into events. The most shameless of this was the Gabby Giffords shooting, which gained a political motivation based purely on things that reporters dreamed might have happened without knowing anything about the shooter. If they get away with it, expect them to say that their manufactured motivations are “settled fact.”
-If it would be absurd to concoct a motivation that benefits them, like in the New York subway shooting or the Steve Scalise shooting, they will report on it for a day or two and then find something else to report as soon as possible. During the time they are forced to report it will be all “details are unclear” and “we may never know.”
It doesn’t matter what is said here or on any social media site none of it matters it won’t change anything. There are powers out there determined to destroy Democracy the American Republic and take away our freedoms. That is the goal there is no stopping it and that is exactly where we’re heading. Every democratic country in the world is under fire much it coming from autocratic ruled countries through Social Media. Countries like China Saudi Arabia the UAE Russia Cuba and a dozen or more others. On top of that America is at war within its inevitable collapse soon to come. When that happens the rest of the free world will fall because America the beacon of hope and freedom for the world will no longer exist. America was once a God fearing country now its worse than Sodom and Gomorrah. There is no going back.
Take your bleak pessimism elsewhere Coleman. I will not allow that poison here. Pessimists have never accomplished anything and never will accomplish anything.
To be sure, the threat we face is daunting. To that degree, you do have a point, Coleman. Don, I disagree that what Coleman says is pessimistic. No, it’s defeatist. And that’s exactly what enemies on the left (I repeat myself) want. And all too many on the right have been willing to give it to them. I say, at the very least, that we refuse to give the bastards the satisfaction of giving up.
