PopeWatch: Pray For Him

We do the daily rosary with EWTN and when they come to the part where we pray for the Pope’s intentions, I have to make a modification in my prayer, to pray only for the Pope’s “holy” intentions and for his enlightenment.
Don L, I did exactly as you do regarding the qualifying of the prayer for the Pope’s intentions. However I stopped doing so and now simply pray for them. My thinking was to just trust in God. He will answer the petition in accord with His perfect and divine will and I will trust in that even if I have doubts about the expressed intention. God can always grant any prayer request or not. Just my 2 cents….
I know it is probably the right thing to do but it is difficult to overcome my gut reaction to him. And his ilk. Difficult. For the evil and loss and damage to good earnest believing people who have been sent through the wide gate. The devil also works through human agency.
Was judas prayed for, or was the mystery accepted
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your heavenly Father,
for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good,
and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same?
So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
Matthew 5:43-48
“The Bible tells us to love our neighbors, and also to love our enemies; probably because they are generally the same people.”
― G.K. Chesterton
To paraphrase the generals; he is the Pope we have rather than the Pope we want. Prayer for him would be most appropriate after hearing a litany of his shortcomings.
And also pray for Jorge Bergoglio?
Every rosary includes him.
Sometimes love of neighbor means praying God will bring him to repentance. That doesn’t mean any of us are better. We all should repent. But either Bergoglio should repent, or he should be deposed and anathamatized.
I know I deserve to die for my sins. And I am not excusing any of my sins by pointing out that this guy has got to be booted off the papal throne.
Mercy could also to be struck dumb. Then he may listen to God, because God is sending grace.
