Reich lives in his own little world which he can reorder as he pleases. Unfortunately he also wants to change everyone else’s. He wrote a volume about his time as Labor Secretary that is silly, frightening and wryly amusing at the same time. He is well retired as are we.
The Hon. Richard Posner’s lawyers have admitted in court filings that he’s in a nursing home consequent to a dementia diagnosis. I’ve seen the daily bulletins Reich is pushing on Facebook, and I’m recalling complaints about Posner’s conduct from the bench some years back. Reich ca. 1983 was a temperate advocate of inadvisable policy and Reich ca. 2003 was someone with critical distance from the administration which had employed him. Now he’s a weird fanatic.
Reich gave a talk in 2011 in which he claimed that he was protected as a child by an older youth named Michael Schwerner. Schwerner was later employed by the Congress of Racial Equality and was in June 1964 kidnapped and murdered in Neshoba County, Mississippi by members of a local klavern (who included the sheriff). What’s curious about this claim is that the Reich and Schwerner families lived nowhere near each other (on opposite ends of Westchester County NY) and Schwerner was nearly seven years older than Reich. Reich claimed it was ‘up in the mountains visiting my grandmother’.
So, Max is now part of the lefty/elitist chorus, wailing how the cause of “our precious democracy” (gag me) requires massive censorship. Next I suppose old Max will decide that preserving virginity requires $ex. 😂 Not a perfect analogy, to be sure, but it’s the best I can do for now.
