My brother and I, up until high school, would almost always have sword fights with the palms after Mass until our Mom would pry them from our hands to be placed before the crucifixes in our home, a tradition, sans sword fights, I observe to this day. The dramatic reading of the Passion was always a high point in the liturgical year for me. If you want to introduce a friend to Catholicism, Palm Sunday is not a bad place to start.
