Unfortunately he will become a highly paid lobbyist, a CNN commentator or both.
If he becomes a CNN commentator, with their ratings, I can guarantee that no one will recall his name! As for being a lobbyist, I doubt the Trump Congress which will likely be sworn in next January will have much time for him.

In addition to Dems and NeverTrumpers, another existential threat to us is the deep state.

A worthy goal that will never happen. It would require major amendments to both the Civil Service Act and the National Labor Relations Act. Organized labor, the most powerful faction of which is the unions representing government employees, retains political power in this country far out of proportion to the actual number of union-represented people. They can and do raise vast sums of money for Democrats, for which they are always well rewarded by the Swamp. It would take veto-proof majorities in both houses of Congress and a sudden growth of spines by many sitting Republicans, not to mention at least two SCOTUS justices, to pull that off. Again, not going to happen.
