Too true. Communism succeeded because of the cowardice of the average citizen. Fear paralyzed them. Of course, that all stemmed from a lack of supernatural faith. We’ve seen this play out here during the COVID pandemic. For example, and as a whole, the bishops are unbelieving cowards. Where they should have stood up to tyranny, they instead encouraged it.
An all powerful state is very attractive to people who crave such power.
