Russia became a convenient enemy of the Left when it ceased to be the leader of world Communism. Putin is a nothing burger threat to this nation compared to China, the adversary most of the Left refuses to say anything about. Of course for the Left the real enemy is always Western civilization, all else is tactical pretense.

Yep. But put one of them in a land devoid of freedom and civility and they will be the first to crumble.
My husband had a running joke last night as we watched the Australian Tennis Open Men’s finals- Nadal (Spain) vs Medvedev (Russia)- that if the Russian lost then Putin would be advancing his tanks into Ukraine. Spain won. So I asked him this morning if Putin has invaded Ukraine left. My husband laughed.
It’s interesting to note that the Russian was up 2 sets but somehow managed to lose the entire match and Championship. The crowd heckling was his undoing. He couldn’t handle the booing and the fact the entire audience at the Tennis was rooting for his opponent. So in childish form- he heckled back. And lost focus. And lost the Championship. I hope this is a prophetic metaphor to Putin’s undoing. As demented as he is.
Interesting that our lockdown-happy ‘betters’ and their media shills are distraught over a peaceful protest of truckers— but violent, destructive BLM riots and the continued thuggery of antifa were/are both excused as “legitimate protest”.

It tells you that our adversaries have no principles, just improvisations which are conduits to them getting what they want. You can see what they want in legislation like HR1. One person I run into on line compared the rule of the Democratic Party in Congress to a smash-and-grab robbery. I could not agree more.
People who manufacture excuses for Russia are a nuisance (Steve Sailer, I’m looking at you). That having been said, It is true that Russia is a threat only to it’s former subjects in Eastern Europe. China’s a threat to the whole world. Neither have to be a threat to anyone, but they’ve elected to be. We’re not up to these tests anymore.
The part that Russia plays in Western Europe’s problems are largely due to EU incompetence. Shutting nuclear plants and turning to Russia for 40% of its energy supply is neither good business nor prudent statesmanship. The US is little better when it comes to sourcing computer chips. How many times does a lesson have to be learned the hard way before the message sinks in?
