Thought For the Day

It has long been said that in most organizations there are people who are dedicated to carrying out the functions for which the organization was founded and other people for whom the organization becomes an end unto itself.  Men like Cupich are fundamentally uninterested, or actively hostile, to spreading the Catholic Faith.  Thus for them their reason for being is to amass power for themselves within the organization and for members of their faction.  To be fair to Cupich he obviously has a fondness for secular Leftism and he displayed that in previous pontificates when it was probably harmful to his rise in the Church.

Cupich thus may be a true believer, just not of Catholicism.  Carl Olsen has done yeoman work on Cupich, go here to read about it,  and the career of Cupich is a prime example of failing upward in a large organization.

Is the “Peter Principle” applicable here? That is to say, people will rise to the maximum level of incompetence?

Bob, I think it’s more A players hire A players, B hire B,,,, D hire D.
Imagine what it takes to climb the ladder of power (God forgive them) in the pontificate of Francis.

Cupich is, sadly, a Benedict own-goal.

Mistakes will be made with even the most careful episcopal appointments–sometimes, you don’t learn who someone really is until you give him power.

Now, I think there were enough warning signs about Cupich before he got the Rapid City see. But so be it–you screwed up, leave him there until he retires.

But no–he was given Spokane in 2010. By that time, you had a better picture of who he was, which included very-publicly locking the FSSP out of its parish for Holy Week. With the “blessing” of his two predecessors, the third pope of Cupich’s episcopal tenure decided to give him the ultimate promotion attainable by a Yank.

Personnel is policy and it matters far more than the word service he doles out to cheap-date orthodox Catholics.

Crowd fund it. Further evidence that Canada is no longer a free state.

I seem to recall a bank recently shutting down the account of the wife of Gen. Michael Flynn saying her presence among their customers created ‘reputational risk’. Do you suppose the regulatory official who induced them to do that is in the ‘civil service’ or was a political appointee?

I have no idea who has an account at my credit union. Nor do I care. Nor is it any of my business. If I had my money in a bank that canceled someone, my money would be elsewhere the next business day.

As long as those who say they are Catholic keep pretending that non-Catholics, anti-Catholics, and apostates are Catholic-pope, bishop, cardinal or layman-you just keep feeding the beast. The only way to end the careers of these fake prelates is to consistently and relentlessly deny they are Catholic and as such, are not members of Christ Church and have excommunicated themselves.

There is also the phenomenon of organizational mission creep. People in the organization start to think that just because it does something, it must always do that thing. Non-essential activity becomes the mission, crowding out and eventually replacing the organization’s original mission. This has certainly happened in our church.
