Iconoclasm is always a deep seated hatred for the Faith represented. What makes this doubly despicable are the vast sums contributed throughout the Catholic world to restore Notre Dame, not to destroy the cathedral. Ugly Church architecture and wreckovations are a feature not a bug for Church officials who really do not like Catholicism or believing Catholics.
