That’s frightening if you put it that way.
OT, I’ve been monitoring the case counts this year and comparing to last year’s in re the northern tier states without coastlines, figuring that they’re harbingers for the rest of the country (as were the Dakotas last year). Last year, the 7-day moving average of recorded cases generally peaked during the week running from 14 November to 20 November, 2020; Iowa was a tad earlier (12 November); Michigan and Wyoming were a tad later (22/23 November); Idaho saw its peak around 12 December; Vermont’s experience had no clear distinction between the winter wave and the Delta wave, so no winter peak. Comparing 14 November 2020 to 14 November 2021 you see the following:
Vermont: +400%
Michigan: -35%
Wisconsin: -79%
Minnesota: -36%
Iowa: -95%
North Dakota: -65%
South Dakota: -82%
Nebraska: -66%
Montana: -43%
Wyoming: -58%
Idaho: -63%
Perhaps it’s changes in the testing regime or perhaps the climate is warmer this year or perhaps the fact that these places had no spring wave in 2020 has accentuated the distinction between last winter and this winter. Still, not something you don’t wish to see (Vermont excepted).
