We Lie to You News
Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 41 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
Of course, it has been one massive blizzard of lies.
It was never, “Follow The Science.” That was pure propaganda. It was, “Follow The Money.”
The media, who were never impressive, has suffered from declining competence and integrity for about a generation now. Unless a public figure puts his name on it and what he says can be cross-checked by looking at other sources, I just assume the reporter and editor made it up out of whole cloth or are acting as conduits for their preferred bureaucratic faction.
One interesting about this is pondering what must go through the minds of people like Anderson Cooper, who began their career at a time when the media was biased but not fraudulent. (From the reports of the Media Research Center, I’m guessing that the broadcast media was in a more advanced state of decay than the print media at that time). How do they reconcile what they’re doing now with the original training they received? Or were they always con artists and the tunes called by editors were different back then? (In re Dan Rather, I’m willing to believe he was never on the level).
In other places, of course, you can see a generational shift — from Punch Sulzberger to Pinch Sulzberger to Pinch’s pretentious-crapster son at The New York Times and from MacNeill and Lehrer to Ifill and Woodruff at PBS.
Oh the day’s of honest to goodness reporting and decency. Weekend Update. Chet Huntley and David Brinkley could never reach the bar that Dan and Jane set…..thank God.

Ray Bradbury said “truth is stranger than fiction”. I wonder what he would think that now fiction is considered truth.
