- Patents-Who would pay the companies? What would be their incentive to develop such vaccines in the future?
- Debts-After the debts are canceled, why should any sane lender deal with such a country in the future?
- Extractive Industries-What would be the impact upon the poor if the cost of the items extracted increased? Does the Pope care about this very likely consequence?
- Food Corporations-Are “food corporations” simply greedy ghouls, or there are economic forces at play that the Pope is bone ignorant of?
- Arms Merchants-A favorite boogey man of the Pope. Are they the source of the problem or is the source Original Sin and the conflicts that inevitably arise between peoples and nations?
- Tech Lords-Would ideas other than those the Pope doesn’t like be censored?
- Distance Learning-Is the Pope aware of the dismal results of mass distance learning in this country?
- Media-Would the Pope decide this or would he appoint a Grand Inquisitor to do so? Would this be left up to the UN?
- UN-Uber Alles-No doubt the Pope proposes this based upon the stirling record of the UN in resolving conflicts. Backup plan of the Pope when this doesn’t work?
- Profit-What human economic system has ever existed where profit, whatever name it went under, has not been a factor in making decisions?
Isn’t there some rich in resources African country he can run, and ruin? He sounds like Kwame Nkrumah, president for life in Ghana, circa 1965.
We have two Secretaries-General of the UN.
I daresay the chatty one with the exotic costume is making the poor Portuguese chap superfluous.
“…I ask the media to stop…disinformation..”
All well and good, but then from Rome we get this sort of thing.
“…and remember dear souls to fight the evil Climate Change that will cause the apocalypse…”
He’s a deeply ignorant man given to magical thinking. Peronist voter for sure.
The technology and media comments, I’m ok with more or less. But the others, I don’t even know if they’re true. Is there anyone hungry today because of lack of food production? Are there any wars taking place because of the availability of weapons? Is there any neo-colonialism outside, say, the Falklands? I guess maybe the threats against Taiwan, but I’m not sure that labelling it “neo-colonialism” provides any additional insight.

His contention is that the trade in foodstuffs is ‘monopolized’, which has no reality outside the breezy space between his ears. No, wars do not take place because people have weapons; take away their firearms, they will fight with spears. And there never was any such thing as ‘neo-colonialism’. It’s a half-baked concept invented by red-haze word merchants ca. 1970.
