The Germans just don’t listen to themselves much. It lends a certain brontosaurus stomp candor to their interactions with the world, which leaves non-Germans agog.
I’m reminded of Zimmerman’s confirmation of the Zimmerman Telegram, which gobsmacked Americans who were certain it was a British propaganda trick.
