American political prisoners. All to safeguard the illegitimate regime currently in power.
Shameful

The DC judiciary is complicit with this abuse. If we ever have a Republican Congress again, it will be an imperative to reduce the geographic dimensions of their jurisdiction to 1 sq yard in the middle of Connecticut Avenue and provide for them to be paid in potatoes once a year.
Another thing that’s distressing is that the Republican leadership hasn’t said a bloody thing about these abuses. IIRC, Ted Cruz and Rand Paul have made some remarks on the subject. I think rather outre characters like Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene have tried to make hay. Otherwise crickets.
Where’s the ACLU? There was a video of Rep. Gaetz and others trying to visit the political prisoners. Jailers wouldn’t let them in the door.
Solitary confinement! Really? The self proclaimed shaman is a legit mental case. What does 8 months in solitary do to some one like that? He and the others are not murderers. The only murderer that day was a cold blooded killer Capitol Police Officer Byrd.
Where’s the ACLU?
Read commentaries on the ACLU written by Alan Dershowitz and Nat Hentoff a generation ago. Hentoff was puzzled as to why ACLU locals were sitting on their hands while numchuckas were used on anti-abortion demonstrators. Alan Dershowitz was less puzzled, saying the organization (ca. 1988) was an amalgam of ‘civil libertarians and political leftists’. Well, there aren’t any civil libertarians left. (People keep pointing out they went to bat for neo-Nazis wishing to stage a parade in Skokie, Ill; here’s a more cynical interpretatio: they like people who flip the bird at others, they didn’t care about the sensibilities of the sort of Jews who lived in Skokie, and they did not consider the neo-Nazis a threat to anything they cared about, just a club full of losers with no larger appeal).
1 Sep2021: Jonathan Tobin, ““The point here isn’t so much the hypocrisy of those applauding Babbitt’s death. It’s that, by deeming the shooting justified despite the facts of the case and the law, the federal government sets a standard that appears to rest on the victim’s politics and race rather than an objective judgment about a legal question.”
Glenn Reynolds, Instapundit “There are different rules for the Establishment than for others, and different rules still for those who oppose the Establishment.”
And, they don’t give a tinker’s dam about what 75 million of you say or think. They steal elections.
The ACLU has stated that they wholeheartedly support vaccine mandates. What’s more, they did not defend this move with an argument of “these mandates a violation of civil liberties, but times are so desperate that this is one of the rare cases where civil liberties can be violated.” Instead they argued, and this time I am making a direct quote, “far from compromising civil liberties, vaccine mandates actually further civil liberties. They protect the most vulnerable among us, including people with disabilities and fragile immune systems, children too young to be vaccinated and communities of color hit hard by the disease.”
Now, you can argue that mandates are necessary. But if you argue that to not force everyone to get vaccinated would be a violation of civil liberties, you have entered “black is white” territory.
The ACLU has been a joke for years in terms of what they will actually defend. But they at least pretended. Now they are to the point where they won’t even pretend anymore.
Have had no time for Tobin since John Podhoretz gave him a retirement job and his column is weak.
I guess we lay people – in the church and in civics – will have to do a better job of speaking up somehow. Our “leaders” are not going to do the right thing.
Lord give us the Faith and courage.
