Dan McLaughlin is Never Trump, and has remained true throughout to his conservative beliefs. Bill Kristol has turned his back on the conservatism he professed his entire adult life. I have heard it said that you never want to get a job with the Church or it will wreck your faith. The same rule I suspect goes double for politics. Trump, the Great Revealer, has shown us that many professional conservatives were always in it solely for the grifting opportunities. When the paymasters changed, so did the tune.
Honest Never Trumpers and Sheer Grifters

Donald R. McClarey

……to control women’s bodies?
How laughable.
This blood hound, BK, would probably sell his children if the amount was right.
Meanwhile…back at the slaughter house….innocent children die.
Babies Bill!
THE KILLING OF BABIES.
[ the control of women’s bodies..how pathetic is that?]
The Love of money opens the door to hell. My advice is, don’t follow Bill.
The blogger neo-neocon, who has been acquainted with Kristol personally, says she has no explanation for his disposition and conduct in recent years.
You don’t need to be in the fight. You just don’t help the enemy.
The Oxymoron Of The Century Award goes to the guy that tried to tell us there is such a dastard as an “Honest Never Trumper.”
30 August 2021: “Conservatives must finally recognize something that’s very depressing and very important: the conservative intellectual movement in America didn’t just fail. It aided and abetted the Left for money. The Left bought off the Right’s leading conservative intellectuals. And its think tanks. And its ‘flagship’ magazines. This is not hyperbole or conjecture. I’ve got the receipts.” Emerald Robinson, “How The National Review Sold Its Soul to Google”
The only good Never Trumper I ever saw was dead. I didn’t do it!
As far as I’m aware, McLaughlin has never voted for Trump at any time. McLaughlin is unusual among NeverTrumpers in that he’s never been professionally enmeshed in the Republican Party or anything adjacent. He blogged avocationally under the handle ‘Baseball Crank’ but otherwise earned his living as a lawyer. Paul Mirengoff of PowerLine is another person like that. (Not impressed with their commentary on these matters).
One thing we discovered in recent years is that most starboard opinion journalists known for their writing actually had no rapport with ordinary voters, nor were they curious about the perspective of ordinary voters. They were patronage recipients whose salaries came from liberal benefactors or from foundations. The contrast between these characters and Rush Limbaugh, who spoke to ordinary voters for hours and hours each week, has been stark.
There’s a funny analogue to all this in the career of Jack Kemp. He was someone who had history with Ronald Reagan and was quite successful at promoting his initiatives to members of Congress and policy shops and gatherings like CPAC. Then he runs for President in 1988 and he wins about 4% of the vote in the 30-odd states in which he competes and fails to win a plurality in any one of them. He’d never before run for office outside of a safe Republican district set in the suburbs and exurbs of Buffalo. He left Congress at the end of the year and changed his domicile to his house in the DC suburbs.

Don’t know about that. I used to follow a blogger name Karen Beseth who lived in DeWitt, NY (I lived about 40 miles down the road). She found Trump depressing because she thought he cared nothing for conservative policy. (I’ve forgotten the name of her blog. Don followed her too and might remember). The NeverTrump die hards continued to attack him even as it was clear he was if anything less of a disappointment on policy than George W Bush and even as it was clear the permanent government and the Democratic Party were tearing what was left of the rule book to shreds. All that indicated that they weren’t being forthright about what their actual complaints were.
Save America.
I, too, was a very late Trump convert. First, he wasn’t Hillary. Then, he started to do policy things that were very good. Now, I’m sold.
Now, I know that the Bushes were hustlers that said what the base wanted to hear but acted the opposite when they had gulled their way into the Swamp. And, that they ever nominated Romney is prime evidence of the establish [big government, chamber of commerce, corporatist, globalist, pro-abort, sold-out] GOP’s disdain for ordinary Americans and their interests.
As far as I’m aware, McLaughlin has never voted for Trump at any time.
You are correct on that Art. I misread a lengthy article he wrote and I have amended the post.
Remember Kathleen Parker? She had a berth at Townhall when it was hosted by the Heritage Foundation. She was cut from the roster in 2009 after devoting ink during the 2008 election to slicing up Sarah Palin. Then she got an offer from CNN to do a news show teamed up with … Elliot Spitzer, aka Client Number Nine. After that failed she went back to writing columns, and the WaPoo has purchased hers from a syndicate.

Yes, a grifter. You’d think at age 70 she’d be ready to hang up her shoes.
Frankly, I have absolutely no interest in controlling other women’s bodies. I just want other women to control their own bodies, and not make me or their unborn children pay for their own damn dumb decisions.
Southcoast, unfortunately that sort of rational thinking no longer has any weight in the culture in which we are trapped. No one is expected to pay for their own damn dumb decisions. Sigh.
