My favorite living historian, Victor Davis Hanson, nails it:
A busy Milley had promised to root out white supremacy from the ranks while recommending that his soldiers read Ibram X. Kendi’s racialist diatribes.
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin likewise vowed an internal audit of military personnel to chase the phantoms of white supremacy. Does Austin also profile his targets by their being “overrepresented” in terms of the dead in Afghanistan and Iraq?
Something is terribly wrong in the ranks of America’s top commanders that reflects something wrong with the country.
The Pentagon needs to stop virtue signaling about diversity days, culturally sensitive food for Afghan refugees, and rooting out supposed white conspiracists.
Instead, can it just explain why the Bagram Air Base was abandoned by night? Why suddenly are the terrorist Taliban our supposed “partners” in organizing our surrender and escape?
Which general allowed over $85 billion in American weapons to fall to the Taliban—a sum equal to the price of seven new U.S. aircraft carriers?
Who turned over to the Taliban the lists of Americans and allied Afghans to be evacuated?
Who left behind 7,000 biometric scanners that the Taliban are now using to hunt down our former Afghan friends?
Somehow our new woke Pentagon is hell-bent on losing the trust of the American people—along with the wars it fights abroad.
Go here to read the rest. Institutions that fail at their primary function always dream up new tasks to perform. Our military is lousy at winning wars, but it is hell on wheels in enforcing “diversity”. Start boning up on Mandarin Chinese.
Our oldest son is in Marine boot camp. It is our prayer that he be part of the change BACK to a REAL Military. When I am asked what Ethan will do in the service I reply, “He will break other peoples stuff and be proud to do it”. At the moment, however, the top brASS seems more interested in getting everyone to take the JAB rather than create a real fighting force. Where is Patton when you need him.
Dave RX ,You must be very proud of Ethan. Suggest you send him a St. Benedict medal blessed by an abbot in your son’s name. I did that for my army nephew when he was in Iraq / Afghanistan. It was suggested by a priest who. was 6 years in the Corps before entering the seminary. Fr. sent one to his USMC brother when he was in the Gulf War.
Day by day the behavior of Washington D.C. is becoming harder and harder to distinguish from that that would be expected of a foreign invading enemy power. In Washington D.C. there is less and less evidence of “We the People” in their actions.
Everyone I know who’s connected to the military tells a different story than this. They can’t get enough people to sign up, and that’s why they’ve been bending over backwards to lower standards, increase female roles, et cetera. I wish we were just a few good men away from being fully staffed, but we’re not, and they can’t figure out a way to get there without being “inclusive”.
It’s similar to what we’re starting to see in the private sector: people don’t want to work. Is Hanson not aware of this? Is he just selling rote conservative talking points? I don’t like to think of him that way; I know he can do great analysis, but sometimes he seems to phone it in.
Difficulty in recruitment is not the reason for this garbage. It is all woke politics and it is likely to get much more political:

So they do things which will repel their primary recruitment pool. Sounds like a plan.
Women account for about 16% of military manpower and their numbers are goosed by gender-norming performance scores. Just relaxing up-or-out requirements might suffice to keep enough men in service to do without women recruited and retained by relaxing performance standards. The black share of the active-duty military is slightly lower than the black share of federal employees generally.
