If true the Pope needs our prayers as much as the Church needs a new Pope. The Pope’s medical team specifically denied that the Pope has cancer, but mendacity has not been unknown in this pontificate, to put it politely. I don’t know if the Pope has cancer but I do suspect his condition is more serious than we have been told.

I pray for his conversion of heart and for a happy death in a state of grace. The same wish applies to every single living soul, because that is our second greatest Commandment. And because in all honesty I wouldn’t wish Hell on anybody. Period.
That said, I’ve reached the point where I initially presume that everything we are told by the Vatican mouthpieces is false in some key respect. Just like every national and international government or agency out there. Trust once lost can never be fully restored so long as the people who breached it are still in power. Sad.
The next conclave should be interesting. We may learn (I hope so, anyway) that the Holy Spirit, that “God of surprises” to whom this Pope has often referred in support of his, um, unique perspectives, has some surprises in store for those who have sought to stack the deck in favor of another ultra-Modernist Pope.
When I read this, I actually felt pity for Pope Francis. Yes, I hope God deposes and anathematizes him. I wish God to exile him to an isolated monastery on Mount Athos in Greece where he can contemplate his errors for the remainder of his life. But I do NOT wish colon cancer on him, NOR any other dreadful disease. However, God could have different plans.
