My son spent his undergrad years studying the human body in preparation for physical therapy school. He even got to work on a human cadaver (rather rare in the undergrad world).

The pre-med students on the other hand all had to take bio-chem. Lots and lots of it. The cadaver lab was not for them. I don’t think the nursing students had to take that class. (To be fair: doctors take cadaver lab at med school–but then, so do PTs).

The modern day doctor seems to be much more about pushing this pill and that pill, and not actually trying to cure the problem that caused the sickness in the first place–obesity and poor nutritional choices being right up there with lifestyle choices over which people have control. I am sure my hypertension is more related to a love of refined sugars and alcohol than my age. The solution? Here’s a pill (one that might actually make me more susceptible to significant Covid infection…or maybe it might be protective–the research is still ongoing.)

My PT on the other hand noted muscle weaknesses that contributed to shoulder tendonitis, and pointed out one shoulder is out of balance with the other. The solution amounted to hitting the gym (and retinking my preferred sport)–not taking a pill to solve the pain problems.

Yes, I’m sure ‘obesity and poor nutritional choices’ caused the autoimmune disorders, arthritis, and colitis wracking my mothers 130# frame.

Funny you should mention obesity, since that’s one of the places where they’re abusing science by using a screening mechanism as a diagnosis, and on the basis of that telling pregnant women to do something we know causes weight issues for their children and grandchildren — dieting while pregnant.
(it gets very Orwellian when they well tell you that, by your BMI, you should lose five pounds while pregnant– but do not diet! Also, you should be able to get all the nutrients you need from a healthy diet, even though you can show it would require a food intake well above your calorie budget even if choosing from the ‘suggested’ foods.)
When you start looking at how that measurement is done– inexact height, not accounting for the weight of clothing which is over 20% of the total range of “acceptable” weight for myself– or that health outcomes are Best in the over-weight category….
Yeah, don’t throw the “obesity” thing out like it’s better than voodoo.
