Decriminalize crime and you have more of it. The security guard was pathetic, or he might have been under orders not to do anything. When stores close and leave areas due to this type of massive ongoing theft, the cry from local politicians will be that all of this is caused by racism.
This fellow was finally arrested. Cops say that he had performed at least six brazen shop lifting heists like the above. Go here to read about it.
What exactly was the security guard there to do besides stare like a stunned fool..
We need Trump’s direction more than ever.

“Decriminalize crime and you have more of it. “
My conservative friends can always connect the dots on cause and effect. My liberal friends can never seem to do that – it’s like they’re missing that part off their brain or something.

After reading several of the comments on Twitter, and seeing/reading other articles about similar situations in other locations in the US (different stores), corporate policies are usually for security to observe and record, possibly keep other law abiding patrons safe/unharmed. Insurance may cover the loss of the items sold, or possibly they will be written off as “shrinkage” (a certain amount of which is expected and built into the price of items that do sell.” The recording goes to the police for them to deal with (if they choose to, and in some areas of our country right now, they choose not to because the DA has promised not to prosecute).
.
If the security guard was injured, or maybe of the thief was injured while be taken down by the guard, the possibility for a lawsuit (or worse) is rather high right now in the US, and that could cost the company way more than the $1,000 or so that was stolen.

Early on in the pandemic, while shopping at the local Big Chain Pharmacy I didn’t have a mask on (I was in a rebellous mood). I asked the cashier what the policy was, and he said Corporate told the employees not to challenge the mask-less because in one of the big cities and cashier did just that–told someone to put a mask on. That cashier got shot in the face.
I believe you DJH. So then you would think the company shouldn’t waste their money on contracting a security guard. How completely ridiculous.
No, he does serve a purpose–observing and reporting. Granted there are security cameras, too, but cameras don’t keep other patrons from doing stupid things, and a guard’s presence might deter some less brazen thieves.
I don’t know…
