Sad but true. It doesn’t help that much of the narrative nowadays is devoted to painting any day in the past as one of immense evil. So any effort to roll back changes gets painted as “putting y’all back in chains.”
I’ve noticed lately that intramural disputes pit the Republican caucus of the legislature against the Republican governor. Another piece of evidence that those elected from small constituencies listen to constituents and those elected from large constituencies listen to donors. Not all of them, of course. The Governor of Arkansas has revealed himself to be a boob-suck-up. The Governor of Florida has not.
