One other thing that’s distressing is that Ontario has a notionally starboard government. Quebec has what passes for one in Quebec.

Note, from 20 March to 31 March, the increase in daily cases recorded in Canada was about 1,300. From 7 April to the present, the increase in deaths recorded has been about 14. Canada’s been dogging it on vaccinations, covering only 60% of the distance the United States has and about 1/3 the distance Israel has. They’re doing better than Germany, however.

The US has had trouble setting priorities, but is besting Europe in rapidity of vaccination. The UK is running ahead of us and Hungary just behind. The rest of the continent is dogging. Chile is the Latin American country with the most rapid vaccination program (and running just ahead of the US); no surprise there.

This is nothing compared to what is going on in Vancouver.

A postal worker named Robert Hoogland has been sent to jail on contempt and family violence charges for trying to stop his daughter’s transitioning to a male. Here is link to the background story: https://www.city-journal.org/canadian-father-jailed-for-speaking-out-about-trans-identifying-child

A few days ago he agreed to a plea deal. After he entered his guilty plea the judge rejected the deal (but not the plea) and gave him six months and seized the money he had raised for his legal expenses as “ill-gotten profits”. I’m not a lawyer, but I have never heard of a case where the judge and prosecutor colluded to trick the defendant into making a guilty plea, and to then impose a more severe sentence than the one they had bargained (usually plea deals are struck down because they are defective in some way to the detriment of the defendant, correct?). This reeks of Soviet justice.
