The devil appears to have the management of the Catholic Church under his control.

Now we know he has no supernatural faith whatsoever. If he even had a shred of faith, he would have the humility to recognize how evil that video is. Disgusting!

If I’m not mistaken…there was a secret deal struck with the CCP and PF..yes.
Propaganda like this is probably one of the agreements they settled upon. No mention of government selection of Bishops. Forced labor camps. Religious persecution.

I was shocked that I didn’t see happy Tibetan monks making the heart sign with their two hands.

I’m praying for Chinese Catholics that the pope through under the popemobile.

God help them.

“They should promote the gospel, but without engaging in proselytism…” what on earth is he on about?? He is helping the Communist Party annihilate the Catholic Church and it’s Faithful in China.

Don,
Forgive me if this is not appropriate. Have you seen this? https://wdtprs.com/2021/03/st-peters-basilica-individual-morning-masses-suppressed/

You’re misreading Francis.

He’s always had a hang-up with the idea of proselytizing. He sees preaching to convert as an external thing, as opposed to the internal act of living and sharing the Gospel. I personally think he loses people by trying to make the distinction, but maybe it makes more sense in Spanish.

As Ezabelle notes, promoting without proselytism sounds like a contradiction. And I’m sure Francis realizes this phrasing is more palatable to the Chinese government. But he has made the same statement across the world.

To commenters in general: remember, judge not, but particularly in matters where such judgment comes off as disobedience.

Pinky. Could also be a knee-jerk reaction to Protestant Evangelical missionaries who are emptying the pews in some parts of Latin America. In which case, his cure is worse than the disease, alas.

The Spanish is basically the same as the English. The exact phrase is “pero sin hacer proselitismo” which literally means “but without making proselytism” though in English “but without engaging in proselytism” is the more natural translation.

Our Faith has never called for forced conversions. If that is what the Pope means by “Proselytising” then that point is redundant. But our Faith has and does call us to speak to others and convince them in our actions AND words about the Truth which our Faith undeniably possesses. So essentially Pope Francis is telling the Chinese faithful to stay in their designated boxes and do exactly the opposite of what the Apostles were instructed by our Lord to do- go out and spread the good news to all nations. Pope Francis is also telling the Chinese faithful to do the opposite of what his namesake St Francis did – he unreservedly stood in front of crowds in villages and preached the Gospel, and converted many by his words. So if the Clergy and the laypeople in China cannot openly preach and talk to non-Christians about their Faith and only touch others by their “actions” then how are they to spread the Faith? Essentially he is repressing and putting conditions on the Chinese Faithful in order to appease the Chinese government. Weaken the Church there, dwindle the numbers of Faithful over time and ultimately destroy the Church in China. Pope Francis is meant to represent the Chinese Faithful not the Chinese government.

Loved the read Philip. Thank you. This gives hope. The Church needs more young Faithful leaders like Cardinal Zen. Not just in China.

Karl and Donald.

Cardinal Burke jumps in;

In conclusion, Church discipline recognizes the right, and indeed the duty, of the Christian faithful to make known to their pastors their concerns regarding matters which pertain to the good of the Church and, likewise, to make such concerns known to all the Christian faithful (can. 212 §3). Given the gravity of the situation represented by the document in question, it is my hope that many of the Christian faithful for whom the Basilica of Saint Peter is, in a particular sense, their mother church, and, above all, many priests from throughout the world will make known to Pope Francis and to his Secretariat of State their strong objection to the document in question.

Once again he masks the cross on his chest with his reading papers.
Once again, there is nothing on his desk or on the background wall that represents anything Catholic or Christian.

I suppose in a century we may know what sort of threats were made to Benedict to induce him to abdicate.

Francis’ life expectancy is about 6 years, of which he’ll likely spend some time incapacitated. I wouldn’t put it past the cardinals to install someone as bad as a successor, of course.
