Amazing how threatening the job of a politician can cause them to often embrace common sense. Now replace the would be dictator of California by recall. Politicians should never be rewarded for last minute conversions to save their sorry necks.

This was excellent news. Would that Illinois had the petition and recall system. Oh, well.
I would note in passing that, in these strange times, you could have ended your last sentence after the word “rewarded” and it would have been just as cogent.
It’s interesting that the California state government has been very insistent that signatures to the recall petition must be made in-person, and cannot be mailed in, and must be accompanied by ID verification.
The folks who insist that such restrictions are wrong on Election Day are happy to have them in place when dealing with a Recall.
imho it has less to do with the recall petition than the fact the lockdowns have mostly served their purpose of installing biden, whether by hook or crook. Cuomo, Whitmire and that bugeye from chitown are making similar noises.
Although there are reports that Biden, or his puppetmasters, is furious at Newsom for lifting the restrictions:

The latest video shows Biden signing executive orders and then being unable to locate his breast pocket in order to return his pen to it. As if he were intoxicated.
I don’t think he has much agency.
