Riot on Capitol Hill

The U.S. Capitol is locked down after pro-Trump protesters charged the building on Wednesday as Congress began counting the Electoral College votes.

Around 2 p.m., Capitol police sent out an alert:

All buildings within the Capitol Complex,Capitol: Due to an external security threat located on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol Building, no entry or exit is permitted at this time. You may move throughout the building(s) but stay away from exterior windows and doors. If you are outside, seek cover.

Both chambers abrubtly went into recess amid the chaos.

Lawmakers were given gas masks as police tried to control the situation inside the Capitol.

Shortly after 3 p.m., a shooting was reported inside the Capitol as the situation escalated.

Go here to read the rest.  A very bad ending to the Trump presidency.  Today he played completely into the hands of his enemies.

Unless you have evidence of Trump calling on his supporters to take a page from Antifa’s playbook and storm the Capitol building, I don’t see how this is Trump’s fault.

There is some question of whether or not it was started by Trump supporters. Antifa had put out call for it’s supporters to infiltrate the crowd and cause trouble. I would wait to hear the whole story before passing judgement especially blaming “Orange Man Bad”. If people are arrested and then released, then something is rotten.

Sadly, this was bound to happen sooner or later. The Trump presidency has been marked by both brilliance and buffoonery.

Earlier today. “No quit in the man.” It seemed like admiration..
Now, “Dangerous idiocy on stilts” and “A completely self-inflicted mortal wound.”

No wonder Republicans self-destruct and Democrats keep winning, no matter how much lying and cheating (and worse) is needed to “achieve” it.

Since a set of norms of political behavior that’s only honored by one side is no set of norms at all, so am I.

Since when is having a political rally a call for rioting and storming the Capitol Building? I listened to nearly the whole thing and heard nothing that even hinted at that. Do you think his mear presence CAUSED people to storm the building? I saw the police presence yesterday that was used to protect Antifa and BLM at the “BLM” Plaza. Why was that not repeated today at the Capitol? Purposeful? Perhaps… A repeat of the Richstag fire? Perhaps. They don’t seem to be acting like any other groups of Trump supporters. I again suggest waiting, until we find out what’s really going on.

Why aren’t the media declaring this was a “mostly peaceful protest”?

As it is, I have to wonder if some, if not all of the violence is antifa false-flagging.
In that, I agree with JFK above.

When things like this happen Art, it is usually a prelude to wholesale violence. I am not content with it.

No clue what it usually is or is not. I do know they’ve pretty much cut down every tree. When you do that, any command an officeholder gives in public life is an assertion of will, nothing more, nothing less. I’m too old and dispirited to do a wretched thing about anything. I am telling you that Col. Jessup was right.

Since the speaker is someone Richard Lowry has been editorializing against for six years. Sort of depressing watching starboard media fade away, but Lowry’s self-indulgent little crew I will not miss.

It could be a Reichstag moment. And that’s the problem.

I agree though that it would be good to see who led this. There were reports for Antifa to infiltrate and cause trouble. Doesn’t excuse Trump. Would have been better for the rally to be on the 5th and then let the corrupt process play out on the 6th.

Apparenrly. Pence has changed his Twitter Profile background image to Kamala and Joe. Nice support.

Some people have already found photos of people from the rally today who have also attended Antifa and BLM rallys. Twitter is actively deleting images and links and not allowing retweeting.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the odious Governor of Virginia has declared a curfew in Arlington and Alexandria. There is, of course, nothing going on in Arlington or Alexandria or any other locus in greater Washington outside of a small area around the U.S. Capitol, but 400,000 people are supposed to stay locked in their homes while he jerks himself off in Richmond.

Nothing should be taken at face value. The people engaging in violence need to be identified and questioned. It is quite believable to think that antifa inspired people would infiltrate an otherwise peaceful gathering intending to stir up trouble. As the old saying goes- “Cui bono?”( i.e. to whom does it benefit) The political movement Trump represents has many enemies who stand to gain from discrediting it. And after decades hoaxes reported initially as serious hate-crimes I wouldn’t put anything past the domestic, marxist left.

There is a lot of confusion with today’s events we may never get adequate information about who was involved or leading the group that breached the Capital Building.

What is important is that the Democrats have accepted violence as a tool for political gain, government agencies have been used to persecuted political opponents, the Courts have refused to be impartial administrators of justice and the broadcast media has become the propaganda agents of the Democratic Party and Republican Deep State.

The perception of having a fair election has been a safety valve with politicians promising to fix situations if elected to office. A violent situation may be preventable if there is a mechanism to investigate this election and fix election fraud.

I doubt that the Democrats will see today’s events as an indication to pause and consider where the nation is and where it is going. Instead this event will be seen as an opportunity to damage the President and his supporters. I fear that those who have seized power though a fraudulent election plan to follow through with their promise to change our nation. They believe that they have power and are unlikely to negotiate or compromise.

The comment about the invasion of the Capitol being a Reichstag Fire analog is, I believe, apt, where Antifa infiltrators took over. A demonstration in front of the Capitol, on the other hand was well justified. And you should have heard the biased reporting of this on ABC and CBS news. Even after a woman was mortally wounded by Capitol police.

I didn’t get to see this live because I was at work but I was told by someone who was watching the vote count that “all hell broke loose” just as the Arizona electoral vote was presented and the objections raised. Now why would Trump supporters interrupt or cut off the proceedings at the precise moment their case (that the votes wers fraudulent) was about to be made? I have to wonder if this whole notion of having a big rally/demonstration today wasnt a trap set up by the Left, which unfortunately Trump and his supporters walked right into.

How many businesses were looted?
How many buildings were burned?
How many cops were shot?
How many peaceful fellow patriots killed?
Riot? give me a break. Storming? yea right. It literally looked like a weekend tour at the capital building.

This riot on capitol hill is evil in itself, and destructive for anyone who supported what Trump was trying to do in Washington. He will never live this down. A completely self-inflicted mortal wound.

If there’s one thing Trump’s presidency should have taught us by now is that it does not matter. Even if he was perfect, they would invent something to blame on him.

But hey, it wouldn’t be America without us getting back to the circular firing squads.

I think everyone needs to take a good, hard look at what happened today —both the riot/protest and the response to it—in light of what’s happened across the country since last spring, firmly note and understand the differences in the response of our so-called authorities, and then consider the sustained assault on civil liberties that is “lockdown nation,” and finally understand that civil discourse went out the window at least a decade ago.

And then I think everyone needs to ask themselves, is this even the same country anymore?

Oh, and while Gov. Northam is pretending that martial law is proper for Arlington and Alexandria, his health department reports that 2,700 doses of vaccine were administered today. NB. the medical sector worker and persons over 60 sum to about 2 million in Virginia, each requiring 2 doses. At this rate, all the vulnerable people would get their vaccines in 4-5 years. Well, make that 7 years because Northam gives priority to ‘essential workers’.

I’m also beyond caring about “optics” or who “wins” in a scenario like this. The analysis is always the same: it’s bad for republicans and now the democrats are going to win more but its our fault.

If you want to do something, commit fraud in the next election. Everyone has as much as admitted that that is just part of the process. Refusing to engage in it is as “honorable” as refusing to bunt or steal bases in baseball.

I may not be happy with the storming of the capital, but I must put things in perspective. A highly flawed man was validly elected president 4 years ago. The media, big tech, academia, blah, blah, blah attacked his presidency. His supporters were ridiculed and mocked. Aside from his tweets, what was so horrible about his presidency?

I’d guess in two years the Dems will make significant gains in the house and senate. Conservatives are pissed. We are defeated and fed up with the course of events. To the catacombs.

And speaking of storming the Capitol and guesses, my guess is the Capitol of the United States doesn’t get stormed unless someone wants it to be stormed. Kind of like how protestors don’t crash a committee hearing unless someone wants them crashing it.

I am not so sure about that. If Biden raises peoples taxes and repeals the executive orders that Trump made that stimulated the economy resulting in another recession, voters may be fed up with Democrats. And I believe the instigators of the Capitol riots were not Trump supporters but people whose purpose was to do exactly what they did and make Trump supporters look bad. Many of the images from the riot contain Antifa members from Philadelphia. That should be made public.

That’s your normalcy bias showing. We’re outside the regular course of events now.

For example why would a blue collar, Trump supporting populist from the rust belt waste his time voting for Republicans who won’t be able to do anything except feather their own nests and reward deep-pocket donors? Right now, these people despise Republicans more than they hate Democrats.

And then there’s the 20 plus million newly minted voters that’ll be on the rolls by 2022.
