Mary Mother of God

Ah, Mary pierced with sorrow,
Remember, reach and save
The soul that comes to-morrow
Before the God that gave!
Since each was born of woman,
For each at utter need —
True comrade and true foeman —
Madonna, intercede!

Rudyard Kipling

Our Lady, who served God by allowing Christ to come into the world through her, has been given a special mission in the economy of salvation. And that is a mission of nurturing and correction which is the nature of motherhood. Over the last 500 years or so she has made various appearances to this regard mainly having to do with the waywardness of the Catholic Church itself. Today, on Return to Tradition Anthony Stine discusses Our Lady of Good Success or more correctly Our Lady of Purification, i.e., purification of the Church. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrwjQSkHvPo&t=4s

“Gabriel used careful and prudent language when he announced His birth. He did not speak of “what will be born in you” to avoid the impression that a body would be introduced into [the Blessed Virgin’s] womb from outside; he spoke of “what will be born from you,” so that we might know by faith that her child originated within her and from her.

By taking our nature and offering it in sacrifice, the Word was to destroy it completely and then invest it with his own nature, and so prompt the Apostle to say: This corruptible body must put on incorruption; this mortal body must put on immortality.

This was not done in outward show only, as some have imagined. This is not so. Our Saviour truly became man, and from this has followed the salvation of man as a whole. Our salvation is in no way fictitious, nor does it apply only to the body. The salvation of the whole man, that is, of soul and body, has really been achieved in the Word himself.” —S. Athanasius, Letter , Office of Readings, Liturgy of the Hours, for Dec. 31st, 2024
