When All Else Fails, Pray!

“O My God

“When I look into the future, I am frightened, But why plunge into the future? Only the present moment is precious to me, As the future may never enter my soul at all. It is no longer in my power to change, correct or add to the past; For neither sages nor prophets could do that. And so what the past has embraced I must entrust to God.”—St. Faustina

Like many other readers of this blog, I have been more than disheartened by what has been happening in our country these past few months—not only by the election results per se, but by the fraud, chicanery  and evil intent that has brought them about.  What has particularly distressed me is that people whom I had regarded as faithful Catholics have ignored the anti-life positions taken by Biden and the democrat party, positions that take no regard of the sanctity of  life from conception to natural death.

So, I have been turning to prayer—in particular, the three days of prayer offered by the National Shrine of Divine Mercy, December 9-11.   (See here, here and here.)   The  Marian priests and brothers  at the National Shrine are devoted to St. Faustina, who sought to proclaim Christ’s boundless mercy.   I heard the opening quote in a reflection given during the Third day of prayer.

There’s not more to say in this piece, other than  to emphasize that I see only prayer as a way to sustain us during these times.  There aren’t that many more years left for me and my wife, so the morphing of our country into a banana republic governed by an unprincipled oligarchy, allied with Chinese Communists, will not affect us all that much (I hope).  However, I grieve for my children and especially for my grandchildren;  they will be the ones who lose their freedom and have to cope with eroded moral standards and economic distress.

My wife has urged me to take a historical perspective.*   God has His own plan, and we are not privileged always to discern what that might be.  Who are we to know what good things might be forthcoming in the future after a time of trial?

So, let us pray.  Pray that all politicians allow freedom of conscience and  maintain the right to life, from conception to natural death and for our country to maintain its heritage of freedom.

Yes, of course, let us pray but also prepare for the worst. Please note Laramie Hirsch:

Matt. 5:44; Luke 6:27-28, 32-36. Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute.

The Hope we [poor banished children of Eve mourning and weeping in this vale of tears] have is the reward of eternal life, which God’s only begotten Son purchased for us with His life, death, and resurrection.

Bob Kurland.
Your December 8th piece on public confession for public sins caught my attention;
“Now, I don’t believe that anti-life Catholics in Congress, state governments or, God forbid, a future President, will confess either privately or publicly to this sin. But one can always pray for that to happen.” BK

Yes. One could pray for that to happen. It could be the beginning of the end for Catholics who thought voting for Catholic pro-aborts was no big deal.

Maybe the center stage, a Catholic President, will be held accountable to the Holy Catholic Church and it’s teachings regarding Abortion.
Bishop or Priest, gives him the final chance to change his position or face the consequences, that being the withholding of Holy Eurchrist until he repents, confesses and with contrite heart does his penance.

Just maybe Biden’s faux win turns out to set the record straight regarding Abortion and Catholicism.

I will pray to Our Lady of Guadalupe for Joe’s reversion and the end of Catholic politicians who go against Catholic teachings. That no Catholic in good standing will ever vote for a candidate who supports the killing of innocent children.

Abortion is Murder.
Biden is a catholic in name only until he opens his heart to the unborn.
Until then, he’s a foolish traitor to Christ and His Church whenever he approaches the communion rail.

Agree with your well pointed words Dr. Bob And I miss you! The murder of the innocents is the open wound of our country. Now our hard times are imminent. Be well.
