And the hobby horse of the Pope keeps clattering on:
Global efforts to promote divestment from fossil fuels expanded further as 47 faith institutions announced their divestment from fossil fuels on Monday, in the largest-ever announcement of its kind among religious leaders.
The Global Catholic Climate Movement in a statement said that 42 Catholic institutions and five other additional protestant and Jewish institutions have severed ties with the fossil fuel industry in a bid to help tackle the climate crisis. They join with nearly 400 other faith institutions that have divested from fossil fuels.
This announcement comes after the Vatican’s first-ever operational guidance on the environment was issued as part of the celebration of the fifth anniversary of Pope Francis’ 2015 Encyclical Laudato sí. The guidelines, signed by all of the Vatican’s dicasteries, encouraged Catholics to avoid investing in companies “that harm human or social ecology (for example, through abortion or the arms trade), or environmental ecology (for example, through the use of fossil fuels).”
Go here to read the rest. The chief ailment of the Church is that the teachings of Christ are sidelined for political stances that have nothing to do with Christ. The Church is following the path to extinction pioneered by many Protestant denominations.
The “climate crisis” (and it’s political cousins) has replaced the “salvation crisis” as the mission of the church now. Is that not what I’m sensing? And some still wonder why the world today is so messed up….
Well said Donald: “The chief ailment of the Church is that the teachings of Christ are sidelined for political stances that have nothing to do with Christ. The Church is following the path to extinction pioneered by many Protestant denominations.”
The process of shedding the glories of God for “glories” of Man began in earnest at Vatican II whose utopian vision (in cooperation with Communists and the Democrat Party0 is now bringing about a totalitarian hell on earth as we see in the recent corrupt election and the fake Covid pandemic.

Sadly, this was the case long before Jorge Mario Bergoglio planted his backside on the Chair of Peter.
What Greg said. Francis has merely intensified the process and made it front and center. Distill out the worst features of clerical leadership over the past sixty years–from parish priests to popes–and serve it out of a fire hose. That’s where we are now.
And truly, the Catholic entities do this love the poor so much they want there to be more of them. Making energy hideously expensive and less reliable will do wonders for expanding poverty and ensuring escape will be improbable.

Magical thinking and economics have probably led to more sheer misery on this planet, certainly over the last century and a half, than any other cause.
As an orthodox Anglican with one foot and four toes in the Tiber, I concur with your analysis. Mainstream Protestantism survived for half a millenium on the fuel inherited from Catholicism, finally sputtering to oblivion on the last of the fumes. Catholicism, in turn, has embraced its own internal Protestantism and is following exactly the same path. I trust God will remedy this in His own time and manner, but I don’t expect it to be pretty.
First the control freaks on the left used the fear of nuclear war, then the climate “crisis” and finally COVID to try to establish total control over humanity. As a ride along they also exert maximum pressure on organized religion, many parts of which they have numbed into irrelevance and ineffectiveness. God help us all!
