Every riot lets us know what life would be like in such a dystopia. It is of course the poor and middle class who depend on the police, the rich having private security systems. Where there is no law enforcement there will be no people other than criminals. I can think of nothing more likely to kill major urban centers than Democrats embracing the madness of defunding the police. I have encountered bad cops during my time at the bar, but most have been ordinary men and women doing their best at a thankless job day in and day out. The worthless politicians who make cheap political points calling for their abolition are lunatics, plain and simple.
Look at what’s happened to Austin, TX.
That craven, virtue-signaling city council stripped $120 million from their police budget, redirecting the money to various (leftist) “community organizations”— including Planned Parenthood. It’s a no-brainer that those organizations will then re-direct some of those monies back to those councilmen’s reelection campaigns…
Meanwhile, by the end of July the city’s crime statistics had skyrocketed. For example, the homicide rate by mid-2020 was already 67% higher than the entirety of 2019.
Defunding the police defies common sense, and even in a liberal city like Austin over 70% of the citizens oppose it.
But the citizens weren’t consulted before the budget was looted.
I suspect one reason the left wants police defunded is that it is one of the few organizations remaining that has a culture that is rather conservative. Ergo, it must be demonized and crippled. Public safety is irrelevant.

The knuckleheads on the municipal council in Minneapolis are not intellectuals. Mostly petty NGO functionaries before being elected to office. As far as I can tell, 10 of the 12 members of the council are childless, as is the Mayor Jacob Frey, as was his predecessor Betsy Hodges.
Steven Sailer has offered the opinion that they want to replace the police force with squads drawn from antifa. His reasoning is that police forces are composed of practical men who were commonly athletes in high school and that they are the one force in local politics that remains conservative and immune to the frenzies the left gets into. It’s a power move.

The idea that prosecutors and other local officials can simply ignore this level of criminality is bizarre. The other sheriff’s must feel as if they are living adjacent to a madhouse.
Along the same line…Second City Cop posted a couple of weeks ago that the Soros-funded States Attorney of Cook County has dismissed over 25,000 felony charges in her short tenure thus far. Twenty five THOUSAND.

Defund Virginia State Police by 25% bill filed by Democrat State Delegate Lee Carter. In May while protesting with BLM/Antifa he was pepper sprayed by police “I’m a member of the General Assembly — I write the state police’s budget. They’re gonna ****ing regret this.”
Local deputies and police are punished by a further $41 million in cuts. There’re also proposals to eliminate the mandatory penalty for anyone who assaults a police officer, and for cutting millions from the School Resource Officer (SRO) program, even though in a recent U.Va. study, a majority of students have said that such officers make them feel safer.
