EDIT: Oh! Now I read the link. lol That is pretty cool and fun.
Our centennial was in 1954. The reference is to the date coinciding with the zip code. I am not quite old enough to have been present when the village was settled in 1854. If I had been I would have supported keeping the original name of the community: Dogtown.
For my zip code to do that, we’d have to all agree whether the middle digits represent to the month and the last two the day, or vice versa. Good thing we have 27 more years to figure it out.
