Gratias multas Veteribus Militaribus Navalibusque. Deus eis omnibus benedicat. Et noster Dominus Salvatorque Iesus Christus salutem pacemque aput patriam, et victoriam contra hostes peregri donet.

Today, in addition to constant gratitude to God, I thank the children and parents of our parish school’s Sodality. After 9 AM Mass (Father asked us to stand up and be recognized), they made breakfast for veterans and families of active duty service members. It was wonderful.
Most wonderful were the children and mothers quietly speaking with us and thanking us. Even better, one mother, a Peruvian immigrant married to an NYPD hero, told us how much she loves our country and how important it is to pass it on to our children. She says that in pre-K the children learn their prayers and the words (sing each day) for patriotic songs, including, “America.”

In the Church, there is hope.
