  • If liberals really believe this – that it is pitiful their parents did not have access to Planned Parenthood to abort their children – then why don’t they simply commit suicide? I am NOT advocating this. I do NOT wish them to do this. Such a thought is absolutely horrible. Nevertheless, if liberals think that there are too many humans on the planet (I was conversing with one such person at a pro-nuclear power blog site), then why do they judge their lives more worthy to live and an unborn baby’s life not so worthy? It is not logical, but nothing about liberalism is logical.

  • Edwin Howell and Della Murray were married on 29 June 1918 per the Cook County Marriage Index. The census enumerator called at their boarding house on or about 8 January 1920 and recorded the age of their daughter as 7 months.

  • The answer given the census enumerator in 1930 suggests a date of birth in a range running from April 1919 to April 1920; the 1940 entry suggests April 1920 to April 1921. A witness records 4 June 1919 on her gravestone. Chelsea lied (or recycled her mother’s lie).

  • When I read this on Life News this morning I almost agreed with her. I don’t think she thought that one all the way through. Or else, like most liberals, she is able to hold two competing ideas in her mind at the same time and believe both of them to be true. In this case, it would be that Planned Parenthood could have aborted her grandparent and she’d still be here.

IRS Scandal: Enforcer for Planned Parenthood

Friday, May 17, AD 2013

Al Capone IRS

We’ll  try to cooperate fully with the IRS, because, as citizens, we feel a strong  patriotic duty not to go to jail.
Dave Barry

Ronald Reagan used to say that in his neighborhood the IRS was regarded as a terrorist organization.  I think a more apt current description of it is as an enforcer for various political entities including Worse Than Murder, Inc:

Similarly, the nonprofit Thomas More Society is now alleging that the IRS withheld approval for tax-exempt status from two pro-life organizations because of their demonstrations against abortion provider Planned Parenthood.

In one case, the IRS withheld approval of an application for tax exempt status for Coalition for Life of Iowa. In a phone call to Coalition for Life of Iowa leaders on June 6, 2009, the IRS agent “Ms. Richards” told the group to send a letter to the IRS with the entire board’s signatures stating that, under perjury of the law, they do not picket/protest or organize groups to picket or protest outside of Planned Parenthood. Once the IRS received this letter, their application would be approved…

In another similar case, the IRS withheld approval of an application for charitable tax-exempt recognition of Christian Voices for Life, questioning the group’s involvement with “40 Days for Life” and “Life Chain” events. The Fort Bend County, Texas, organization was subjected to repeated and lengthy unconstitutional requests for information about the viewpoint and content of its educational communications, volunteer prayer vigils, and other protected activities.

Thomas More Society special counsel Sally Wagenmaker calls the IRS authority in these cases is “disturbing.”

  • I think it is clear that the IRS was twisted to political ends. The Executive Branch, in all of our pieces, constantly faces that danger. There is no area of law that an Administration can’t twist with a congress that will not exercise its responsibilities.

    We should be careful here.

The government is staffed by many good and loyal civil servants and it is unwise to treat those rank and file as untrustworthy or tyrannical.

It is even more unwise to treat Congress as heroic for showing up at the eleventh hour, when politics necessitates it, to the fight against tyranny. If this Congress did its job in checking the Executive Branch on an ongoing basis, we wouldn’t be in this mess!

  • You are so right David. Thanks for the good post.

Obama, Abortion, the 1950s and Race

Friday, April 26, AD 2013

The most pro-abortion president in our history, Barack Obama, once again displayed his fealty today to Worse Than Murder, Inc, a\k\a Planned Parenthood:

WASHINGTON     (AP) — President Barack Obama vowed Friday to join Planned Parenthood in fighting against what he said were efforts across the country to turn women’s health back to the 1950s.

Obama’s comments were the first by a sitting president before the abortion-rights group. He lauded its nearly 100 years of service to women, providing cancer screenings, contraceptives and other health services.

“When politicians try to turn Planned Parenthood into a punching bag, they’re not just talking about you,” he said. “They’re talking about the millions of women who you serve.”

Obama asserted that “an assault on women’s rights” is underway across the country, with bills being introduced in nearly every state legislature to limit or ban abortion or restrict access to birth control.

“The fact is, after decades of progress, there’s still those who want to turn back the clock to policies more suited to the 1950s than the 21st Century,” Obama said. “And they’ve been involved in an orchestrated and historic effort to roll back basic rights when it comes to women’s health.”

Leftists like the President usually accuse opponents of seeking to roll back the clock, even as they seek desperately, and futilely, to keep the clock frozen in a present they find desirable.  The video at the beginning of this post is from the National Black Pro-life Coalition, a group dedicated to revealing that no group in our society has been ravaged more by abortion than blacks.  Kermit Gosnell’s butcher shop is merely a particularly ugly manifestation of something that every one in the abortion industry knows and almost never speaks of:  blacks are the number one targeted group for abortions in this country.  In a country where blacks make up around 12% of the population, 35% of all abortions are performed on blacks. Worse Than Murder, Inc, a/k/a Planned Parenthood locates 79% of its abortion clinics in minority areas.  Abortion, the Klan’s dream come true.

  • Sans Jim Crow, what was wrong with the 1950s? I like Leave It To Beaver, Father Knows Best, My Three Sons (I know not 50s but . . .), et al.

  • You forgot Ike. I liked Ike too! Sometime presidents simply “are” and the country seems to run okay. If we could simply make Obama and his cohort a”was.”

I don’t much like this, this, this . . . I can’t get around emasculated . . . congress, but if you could subtract the executive influence perhaps some sense could be had.

  • But yet the GOP establishment doesn’t have the guts to make this an issue. They’re too busy trying to say “social issues are a loser”, when in fact they are the opposite.

  • In 1950 Infants were not having their spinal column snipped to “insure fetal demise” People believed that all men were created equal and that the human being has a soul endowed with unalienable rights to Life.

  • His speaches alone should make Christians cringe but we elected him twice.

I note that the US Council of Bishops leaped on board the immigration reform train, just as they did the healthcare reform train… Giant omnibus bills with so many pieces that no one can get their arms around them. If our bishops won’t act cautiously with this clown, despite having been repeatedly burned, what hope have we as American Christians that the engines of the State can be fitted to their proper purpose.

We need to get it into our thick skulls: this guy hates us! Nothing he does, however it is caste, is to our benefit. If what he does doesn’t hurt us, that is a mere side-effect, not an intentional avoidance.

  • In 1972, two prophetic studies published in the American Journal of Public Health, showed a widespread worry among blacks that family planning programs were a potential means of racial genocide, especially if the programs provided sterilization and were run by whites. Unfortunately, these studies were not taken seriously.
Abortion very often is touted as an economic solution for poor women, i.e., “Black women.” Strident, pro-abortion feminists cry for abortion as a “right” for which they must fight to keep.
The Black community has benefited neither socially or economically from an atrocity that is enthusiastically promoted by those who make 150 million dollars per year from dead African American babies; and by those who seek to entice the Black community to self-genocide through abortion. Therefore, the disproportionate number of abortions by Black Americans, as compared to our percentage of the general population, is more than a social phenomenon. It is destructive and genocidal.
The abortion issue is not being dealt with by the black clergy or black politicians. In fact, abortion is often actually encouraged by these “leaders”.
The aim of Margaret Sanger’s program was to restrict–many believe exterminate–the black population. Under the pretense of “better health” and “family planning,” Sanger cleverly implemented her plan. What’s more shocking is Sanger’s beguilement of black America’s créme de la créme–those prominent, well educated and well-to-do–into executing her scheme. Some within the black elite saw birth control as a means to attain economic empowerment, elevate the race and garner the respect of whites.
Sanger’s plan has worked extraordinarily well over time – today numerous black religious leaders defend the “right” of women to kill their unborn children. It’s ironic that black leaders complain about racism, saying that white people are trying to keep them down, yet they promote one of the most racist policies in this country, abortion.
Approximately two out of three black babies are aborted in the U.S. If that is not racial genocide, what is? What will it take for the Black moral leadership in America to come to grips with this reality? The blood of 54 million unborn babies cries out from the ground for justice. And the future of our nation, which tolerates the unjust execution of these innocents, depends on it.
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” — Martin Luther King, Jr.

  • Things like this give me cause to hate Obama and the Democrats. But hatred is wrong. I should hate the sin, the murder, not the man. I guess I really should not be allowed outside the Confessional. Tell me, how do you folks avoid hating him? I just get so incensed every time I see his face or hear his voice. 🙁

  • I don’t hate Obama Paul, I pity him. Saying God bless you to Planned Parenthood indicates just what a lost soul he is. Unless he repents, his after life does not bear thinking about.

you do any planning you must have a timetable with an agenda.Planning the life
of our children is to be a thoughtful, charitable and an expression of love.
Planned parenthoods biggest profit is from the taxpayers support of abortions
which is likened to murder. What part of Thou Shall not kill do we obey?
Its not the ten suggestions Its the Ten Commandmants!

  • I don’t hate Obama either. Hatred is too strong to waste on someone I don’t like.

  • I treat Obama as a gentile and a tax collector.

  • In the UK, there was a remarkable overlap in membership of the Abortion Law Reform Association, the British Family Planning Association, the Eugenics Education Society, formed in 1907 and renamed the Galton Institute in 1989. The Abortion Act 1967 was passed before the rise of Feminism in the 1970’s and was, in no small measure, driven by Eugenicists and Malthusians.

  • Paul,

Maintining a good sense of humor about myself helps a lot.

Human beings are funny because we appeal to reason regularly but act like unreasoned creatures. I’m the most bizarre creature I know.

Seeing one’s faults, flaws, and sins for what they are and realizing that our pretensions are terribly funny makes it easier to deal with the faults, flaws, and sins in others.

The President is much less than he presents himself to be and his unchanging behaviors suggest to me that he is unaware, that he thinks he is making reasoned, enlightened choices. That is funny… And that is terrible, as Don intimated above.

The most frightening line in Scripture, to me, is “to those to whom more is given, more is expected.” it is terrible to contemplate that it may well be better to live out one’s life in savage nobility than to hear the Word and act in contrary ways to it. It is unreasonable to do so and funny that we so routinely appeal to reason in defense of our unreasoned opinions and actions.

    Humor and terror, comfortable bed-fellows…

  • Something else the 1950s had that the 2010s does not: Bishop Sheen. Oh, how we need his voice today!

  • Joseph: Bishop Sheen is on EWTN

  • Thanks, Mary. I also like to watch some of his old lectures on You Tube. But we need someone like him today, to speak to today’s audiences on today’s issues. It’s probably a dream though. Someone like him would not be so well received today, speaking against abortion and same sex “marriage”, and would be restricted to a channel like EWTN , preaching to the choir, whereas Life Is Worth Living was broadcast on DuMont (at the time one of the major networks) and later ABC, with ratings that rivaled “Mr. Television”, Milton Berle (prompting Berle to quip that Sheen had a better Writer).

  • I’d settle for our clergy preaching like that to us! We have three good priests. All three give strong, useful sermons. One of them lays it on the line, artfully but without pulling punches.

I go to Mass in a variety of places due to work travel. It is rare to have even good sermons, much less ones that tackle the tough issues.

I’d love to hear Father Z’s take on why this is so.

In my parish, people seem to appreciate a challenging, smart sermon. Even ones that I would think would unsettle, such as sermons about the eye of the needle and possessions are received well.

What gives? Why do our priests and bishops pull the punches with us? We are talking about human souls. Shouldn’t we want to be called out if when we stray? Shouldn’t the clergy call us out whether we want to be or not?

  • How not to hate President Obama? Remember that he is a tool–save your hate for the real Enemy below who is using him, and the people at “Planned Parenthood”, and etc. And remember to base it in your love for Christ, lest it become wrath.

Dead Baby Uber Alles

Tuesday, April 2, AD 2013

The above video of a Worse Than Murder, Inc, a\k\a Planned Parenthood rep blithely indicating that a baby surviving an abortion should not receive medical care if  the mother and the abortionist do not wish the child to receive medical care has received considerable play.

Florida legislators considering a bill to require abortionists to provide medical care to an infant who survives an abortion were shocked during a committee hearing this week when a Planned Parenthood official endorsed a right to post-birth abortion.

Alisa LaPolt Snow, the lobbyist representing the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates, testified that her organization believes the decision to kill an infant who survives a failed abortion should be left up to the woman seeking an abortion and her abortion doctor.

“So, um, it is just really hard for me to even ask you this question because I’m almost in disbelief,” said Rep. Jim Boyd. “If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?”

“We believe that any decision that’s made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician,” said Planned Parenthood lobbyist Snow.

Rep. Daniel Davis then asked Snow, “What happens in a situation where a baby is alive, breathing on a table, moving. What do your physicians do at that point?”

“I do not have that information,” Snow replied. “I am not a physician, I am not an abortion provider. So I do not have that information.”

Rep. Jose Oliva followed up, asking the Planned Parenthood official, “You stated that a baby born alive on a table as a result of a botched abortion that that decision should be left to the doctor and the family. Is that what you’re saying?”

Again, Snow replied, “That decision should be between the patient and the health care provider.”

  • Look what an attractive, gentle and feminine person this spokeswoman appears to be. No sign of red leathery skin, warts and stench; nothing to hint of the diabolical in her manner. Another issue of main concern is presented with rainbows and glee, montages of love.
    Obfuscation,packaging, marketing, deception, death.

  • If a convicted criminal survived a hanging, back in the day, didn’t they let him live?
I don’t recall reading this, however I do remember hearing this.

If this was true, then P.P. has viewed the fetus in ways even worse than a criminal, yet what crime has the fetus committed?
This is a time of hell on earth.

  • “I do not have that information,” Snow replied. “I am not a physician, I am not an abortion provider. So I do not have that information.”

OK, as a human, what would you do if you saw an abandoned newborn on the sidewalk? Call 911, or try to locate the mother and ascertain her wishes?

  • We are going through the phase of decline that all great powers undergo at some time or another. For example, the parallels to ancient Rome, which are well-known because well-studied, are astounding. We must come to see that there is nothing really new under the sun and that we cycle through the same situations. Ours is a post-Christian society which makes us ripe for a tragic ending.

  • “For example, the parallels to ancient Rome, which are well-known because well-studied, are astounding.”

Actually Jon when Rome entered its period of rapid decline the general level of morality was improving from what it had been due to the influence of Christianity. History rarely provides us with simple parallels.

  • True on both counts. Thank you.

  • True on all three, sorry. And that’s why it’s important not to be too abstract, avoiding the particulars that are often more meaningful than the generalities.

  • God will judge these people whether or not they believe it. Planned Parenthood is one of the most evil organizations modern man could have come up with. those who support it will regret it.

  • this really makes one wonder if these idiots who take lives actually realize that they too could have been aborted if they were not loved enough by their parent to give them life…is really sad..

  • Today is day 6 of the Divine Mercy novena.
I mention this because of the emphasis on souls of children. How delightful and pleasing to the entire celestial court.

Without Gods mercy life would be death.

America is the poorest nation on earth.

  • I really don’t think anything PP could say or do can shock me. Was does shock me is the nonchalant attitude of some who claim to be pro-life, but do not take seriously the matter that businesses that support Planned Parenthood should be boycotted, and so should all 127 sponsors of PP’s partner in crime, Susan G Komen for the Cure. I was appalled to learn recently how prevalent the practice is of parochial schools to collect box tops from General Mills products, to be exchanged fovrvarious school and playground equipment. General Mills is one of the circle of “million-dollar elite” donors to Komen! Pro-lifers should not even be buying anything with a General Mills label – Betty Crocker, Chex, Bisquik, Green Giant, etc.

  • T. Shaw, God will not shut the gates on someone who votes Democrat. Everyone knows when we vote for a party it’s not for the whole package, at least not usually. We vote in a two-party system which makes it hard on everyone. But God’s acceptance of us depends upon Christ and our faith in him.

  • I can’t agree with you there Jon – you said “vote for the party”. I think the D party’s stated stance is in favor of killing the little ones and having the taxpayers pay for it. The R party doesn’t build that into their platform (so far).
There are individual pro life democrats and pro abortion republicans. We have to be careful that we do not remotely participate in procuring abortions, and we should do everything can to stop them.

  • True, Anzlyne. I do think we get to heaven because of what Christ does rather than what we do, though. I also think we do what Christ wants when we believe in him. We are saved in Christ and consequently/subsequently become like him. Hope that makes sense.

Black Friday and Worse Than Murder, Inc

Saturday, November 24, AD 2012

Hattip to Robert Stacy McCain at The Other McCain.  Worse Than Murder, Inc., a/k/a Planned Parenthood, decided to offer a discount on their blood money services on the day after Thanksgiving in two of their affiliates in South Florida:

A Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in southern Florida is offering a black Friday discount — including $10 off a visit to the abortion center today.   Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast offered the special, saying, “Visit our West Palm Beach or Kendall Health Center for special after Thanksgiving savings on Friday, November 23rd.”

Pro-life blogger Jill Stanek noticed the Black Friday discount and responded, “Planned Parenthood brings new meaning to the term, “Black Friday,” doesn’t it?”   This is the same abortion business where the chair of the national Democratic party headlined a small rally last year.

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz was named by pro-abortion President Barack Obama recently to take over as the head of the Democratic Party. At the time of her appointment to the position, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards praised Wasserman Schultz as a “heroine” for her extensive abortion advocacy. The appointment made it clear Obama would not run from his lengthy pro-abortion record.

  • You’re right: they’re worse than Murder, Inc. That’s because MI was “small potatoes.”

In fact, they’re worse than Hitler, Lenin, Mao, Pol Pot, and Stalin combined.

No doubt they’ll hold a “door-buster” event on Christmas Eve.

  • If this were merely a story from The Onion, it would almost be funny since it represents an over the top convergence of everything that is the complete opposite of the true Thanksgiving and Christmas spirits — unbridled consumerism and destroying unborn children. Unfortunately, it fits what C.S. Lewis described in “The Four Loves” as “a sure mark of evil: only by being terrible does it avoid being comic.”

  • Disgusting. If I say anything beyond this, I will be taking the Lord’s name in vain.

  • They have denied the truth of what human life is, and the meaning of human sexuality. Because they have lied, they must continue to lie, and those lies compound upon each other. And so in honor of “Thanksgiving” they offer discounts for actions that make a mockery out of the concept of thankfulness. They are not thankful for the gift of human life. They hide the nature of what they do, which is ripping babies out of the womb, by marketing techniques which distract from that reality. Note the cheerful colors, and the reference to “savings”, as if it’s a wonderful service to be had at a bargain. It’s presented as a great value, and at a lower price, when in fact it destroys a priceless value. In fact, the entire advertisement is a lie that decorates a horrible reality in pretty colors and attractive words. This is what Planned Parenthood does. It comes from the Devil.

John 8:43-45: “Why do you not understand what I am saying? Because you cannot bear to hear my word. You belong to your father the devil and you willingly carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks in character, because he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I speak the truth, you do not believe me.”

Right now we are fighting their presence in our public schools where I live. Planned Parenthood is presenting themselves as a community service organization dedicated to helping children succeed. We’ve encountered a lack of truthfulness at every turn, consistent with the denial of truth that is at the heart of Planned Parenthood’s mission.

  • Thank you, briana and Alphatron Shinyskullus. My response to your all is from yesterday’s Gospel Reading as I mourn and continue to pray unceasingly for your beloved country.

“”Jesus answered, “My kingdom does not belong to this world.
If my kingdom did belong to this world,
    my attendants would be fighting
to keep me from being handed over to the Jews.
But as it is, my kingdom is not here.”
So Pilate said to him, “Then you are a king?”
Jesus answered, “You say I am a king.
For this I was born and for this I came into the world,
    to testify to the truth.
Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.””

And, yes, John 8:43-45 describes your Rulers very, very well.

  • Mary @42,

    Amen!

    Pray.

Obama Waves the Dead Fetus

Saturday, October 20, AD 2012

In the movie Patton, there is a somewhat eerie scene where Patton indicates why he knows that the Third Reich is on the ropes:

“I had a dream last night. In my dream it came to me…that right now the whole Nazi Reich is mine for the taking.” “You know how I’m sure they’re finished out there? The carts. They’re using carts to move their wounded and the supplies. The carts came to me in my dream. I couldn’t figure it out. Then I remembered. . . . .that nightmare in the snow. The agonizing retreat from Moscow. How cold it was. They threw the wounded and what was left of the supplies in the carts. Napoleon was finished. Not any color left. Not even the red of blood. Only the snow.”

You know that a Democrat campaign is on the ropes when the focus is placed on abortion.  Democrats, at least most of them, aren’t idiots.  They understand that focusing on abortion is going to hurt them as much as it helps them, and, in most states, probably hurt them more.  However, when a Democrat campaign is headed south abortion is often invoked in an attempt to rally the true believers in the right to slay their offspring.  It is a sign of desperation.  Yesterday, Obama had the head of Worse Than Murder, Inc, aka Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards introduce him at a rally in Virginia.

She also cut this video for Obama that was released yesterday:

  • Win or lose this election, one day Obama and the Democrats will truly regret this advocacy of the infanticide of the unborn. Lord have mercy!

  • The drum beat at their Convention was more about abortion than their other agenda. When Mr Obama mentioned the de-funding of Pl P’hood four times in the Hofstra Uni. debate we knew for sure they are grabbing for a lifeline. This latest report proves that their Titanic has hit the iceberg. Hope the sincere Catholics who are in their thrall, some dear friends and family are on a lifeboat that saves their hearts and heads and souls.

  • “Win or lose this election, one day Obama and the Democrats will truly regret this advocacy of the infanticide of the unborn.”

We shall do our best to make them regret it this year!

  • And, they booed God at their convention.

You will not be going to Heaven if you vote for mass-murderers.

  • How many more days? Romney is right; O is at the end of his term. After staring down this evil for four years, I can’t even bear to look it in the face as it whimpers out of relativity. May the healing begin, and may the faithful show compassion to those who are obstinate in their war against the innocent in their mother’s wombs and against Holy Mother Church. The more Romney exposes himself, the more his soul is also exposed. And I like what I see.

  • This is surreal.
Our great grandparents along with the fifty million aborted souls pleading God for a change in the hearts of earthbound men.
Surreal because who would of ever thought that RU 486 could be classified as preventive Medicine. Medicine?
Change we can believe in…..still echoing from Oct. 20th of 2008.
    God have mercy.

  • Planned Parenthood stands to lose money if Obama is not reelected. They are teaching health classes in local high schools using federal grant money, under the guise of “reducing teen pregnancy” and “increasing graduation rates.” Of course, that’s laughable. But not really.

  • How could any Church going Catholic be a Democrat, especially clergy??? Don’t you know you are the reason babies are still being murdered?

  • “How could any Church going Catholic be a Democrat, especially clergy???”

I have met many Roman Catholic clergy who are proudly Democrat.

I have met many Orthodox Anglican clergymen and not one is Democrat.

Go to an Assemblies of God or Church of God parking lot and you’ll find no Obama bumper stickers as you inevitably will find in the parking lot of a Roman Catholic parish.

Just sayin……………….the branches grafted into the Olive Tree had better beware lest they, smug in their arrogance, find themselves cut off one day and those whom they derided as not having the fulness of grace welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven in their stead.

  • It should not be too much of a surprise that many Catholics belong to the Democratic Party and see nothing wrong with it. The NC Register quotes Bishop Dolan thusly: (at the Al Smith dinner)

“Our two candidates claim that both your parties, the Republicans and the Democrats, are ‘big tents,’ containing extraordinarily diverse, even contrary, opposite people and groups,” Cardinal Timothy Dolan noted Oct. 18 at the Al Smith Dinner. “Well, you don’t have a thing over the Catholic Church. We got both Biden and Ryan!” Dolan continued.

    Read more: http://www.ncregister.com/daily-news/civility-in-the-city/#ixzz29s2WEZou

I realize the Al Smith Dinner is a light hearted affair, but these are anything but light hearted times. Ryan may be out of step to some degree with the mind of the Church on her “social teachings.” Maybe even quite a bit out of step. But I don’t think his errors would directly lead to the death of an innocent person. Surely Biden is way out of step on contraception and abortion. And millions have died because some people didn’t want to “force their religion” on others. And yet, we do it all the time, don’t we? Think that little bit about not killing people is in the Ten Commandments.

  • “Ryan may be out of step to some degree with the mind of the Church on her ‘social teachings.’ Maybe even quite a bit out of step.”

There is a difference between being out of step with the liberal Democrat operatives in the USCCB, and being out of step with what Jesus said to Judas Iscariot when Judas complained that costly oil was being used to annoint Jesus’ feet instead of being sold to feed the poor. Paul Ryan is right. The USCCB is wrong. It is time to jettison the false gospel of social justice, the common good and peace at any price. Jesus told the crowd who followed him after being fed the loaves and fishes to seek the Bread of eternal life instead of the meat that perishes. And He did NOT feed them a second time – no free handouts.

I am sick and tired of people wanting Caesar to do for the poor what we as Christians should be doing voluntarily as our penance. It is NOT Caesar’s job to feed the poor, clothe the naked, and care for the sick, and every time we abdicate our responsibility and evade our accountability to Caesar to do that, then we place on the altar of political expediency our freedom and adoption as sons and daughters of God, and replace it with submission to mere mortal man. That is called idolatry and God hates idolatry.

A nation which murders the unborn by the tens of millions and sanctifies the filth of homosexual sodomy deserves no social justice, but one day we will get justice and it will NOT be social – it will be Divine.

  • Planned parenthood being invoked to rally the troops is akin to human sacrifice for a good crop yeild…

  • Paul:

Okay, mea culpa. I shouldn’t have put in the bit about Ryan may be out of step, etc, and certainly not in the way it was worded. I was trying to be “balanced” and “non-partisan” and I obviously botched it.

I don’t agree with the bail outs and the hand outs, Medicare, Social Sec, the so-called “living wage,” and frankly, public education. (I’m very iffy on such “public goods” as highway construction as well.) But my libertarian economic views seem to not jive with the other pro-life Catholic around me who are somewhat concerned Ryan is going to throw Granny under the bus with his suggested Medicare reforms.

  • That’s ok, DJH. I have often written much worse. No harm done. BTW, when I registered to vote in NC, I registered in the Constitution Party because its platform is closest to Church teaching. But since that party isn’t yet “officlal” in the state, it turns out that I am “other” in political affiliation. As for the election, I will vote Romney rather than Goode because defeating Obama is too important and Goode (as much as I like his program and policies) is unelectable.

As for social justice, I am all for taking care of the poor. I just do not think that is the job of the Federal govt. Now if States and local municipalities elect to enact safety net measures, then I am fine with that. But I really think that if we as members of the Body of Christ did our sacred duty as the sheep in Matthew 25:31-46, then we wouldn’t need Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and all the New Deal / Great Society failed programs of FDR and LBJ. All Christians – Protestants, Orthodox Anglicans, Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox – need to start being real Christians. We have this social justice mess because we as members of the Body of Christ have NOT behaved in a Christ-like manner. We have NOT put righteousness, holiness, purity, virtue, honor and integrity first. We have become complacent in our religious freedom and our material prosperity, and now we whine when suddenly both are in jeopardy from that godless man of sin and depravity in the Whitehouse [ see, I can use worse invective than you. 😉 ]. But I digress from the topic of this post. Suffice it to say (at the risk of repeating myself) that we will never prosper, we will never enjoy social justice as long as we murder the unborn.

  • On the other side of the nightmare by contrast, the waving of the budget by a capable candidate. This following is a copy/paste from a campaign email which I hope is allowable, to take off the edge of the gruesome.

‘It’s clear — Barack Obama has no second term agenda.

Although President Obama won’t lay out his plan for a second term, we already know what it will be — a repeat of the last four years. We can’t afford four more years of crushing debt and wasteful spending.

We know what President Obama will do on taxes. He’s already raised taxes 21 times — and he’ll raise taxes by $2 trillion more. Middle-class families will face a $4,000-a-year tax increase just to service his debt and spending proposals.

As Governor of Massachusetts, I cut taxes 19 times. As president, I won’t raise taxes on anyone; I will deliver tax cuts to the middle class; and I will simplify the tax code to make it simpler, flatter, and fairer.

We know what President Obama will do on spending. President Obama’s already increased our debt by $5.5 trillion — and he’ll let our national debt climb to $20 trillion by 2016. He’s promised a second stimulus, yet we don’t even know where the first one went.

As Governor of Massachusetts, I balanced the budget every year without raising taxes and led our state to a credit upgrade. As president, I will cut and cap spending, restore our AAA credit rating, and set us on a path to a balanced budget.

I have a clear plan to put America on a path to prosperity. Contribute now to help promote my clear vision for America.

    Thanks,

    Mitt Romney’

  • Paul,
So many professed catholics are in great danger of losing their place at the Lord’s table and being replaced by Baptists, Pentecostals, Mormons, Muslims, Jews, etc. We catholics have enormous accountability because we’ve been given the fullness of the truth from the cradle. It’s so disturbing to see the continuing blindness to Obama and the democratic party in general. In 2008, I can almost understand that people got caught up in the excitement of voting for Obama and put on blinders, but this time around, there is ABSOLUTLY no excuse. God have mercy on them.

  • PM:

You lost liberals and the social justice crowd at the fifth word . . .

Next time, stay monosyllabic and don’t cite any fact or number.

  • Dear T. Shaw,
Tough order but how about … ?

Unborn babies can cry out and be heard,
    in your human hearts and,
in Heaven where the Almighty can hear all that do.
    or:
Stop the music and think about millions of babies used for winning and getting money to waste on fooling you.
    and:
If feeding your children depends on gov. assistance money,
then it’s urgent to vote the man who cares to have the money there to feed them.

I think Mitt Romney will fix the budget for the security of us all.

  • Mother Teresa said, that the killing of the unborn would distroy the fabric of all life. All of us would be in jeopardy. She was right! Look at our divided country.
Look at God being removed and replaced by hedonism. Lies are told to the people to enslave them.
God be with us, and touch the hearts and minds of americans on Nov 6th.
    Amen! Viva Cristo Rey!

  • No election will ever solve the destruction done to the social fabric of the USA or the West. There is a long-haul conversion needed to undo the damage done and to look at the good neglected and ignored.

  • Paul w. wrote: “I am sick and tired of people wanting Caesar to do for the poor what we as Christians should be doing voluntarily as our penance.” This work has been done by Christians and Catholic organizations for years but when government started stepping in and telling us to do it their way then it became harder to do charitable work. Look at the states that made Catholic Charities chose doing their work or stopping it due to the mandates they placed on them – adoption aspect to place children in same sex homes – many have chosen to stop their charitable work because of it, one in Ill seperated itself from the Church to bow to the wishes of the state.

  • PM: Excellent.

I can’t remember the last time somebody called me, “dear.”

    Thanks!

  • I agree, Richard E., and I still oppose government redistributing the fruits of one’s labor from he who works to him who refuses to work under the false guise of charity. Over and over again this has resulted in one thing: ever more power to the godless State at the expense of the freedom of the individual to his life, liberty and property. The solution is repentance, holiness and righteousness. That is how the most evil Roman emperors were overcome, it is how the Empire finally became Christian, and it is the only means of reversing the sad decline of these United States and obtaining true justice for everyone, rich and poor alike. No amount of government welfare programs can ever do that.

I always go back to the example of the Church at Thessalonika. Some people there thought, after having receiving St. Paul’s first epistle about the last days, that since Jesus was going to soon return, they were entitled to give up working for their food and just sit in ecstatic expectation while others supported them. 2nd Thessalonians 3:10 is very clear: “…if anyone would not work, neither should he eat.” We in these United States will soon find as the economy crashes that we won’t even be able to do that because there will be neither food nor work. We will get all the social justice we deserve for having murdered 53 million unborn babies, and for having sanctified the filth of homosexual sodomy. Lord have mercy!

  • As a life long Democrat, now turned Republican, I say “I didn’t leave the
Democrats, they left me”. They turned their back on GOD, that the founders
turned to, knowing that without GOD’S blessings & A moral citizenship,
government of the people, by the people, and for the people could not work.
GOD must be looking down on us, as we pray & say “What you’re doing
speaks so loud, I can’t hear what you’re saying!!’. WE CAN TURN THIS AROUND.
Think about what happened when Richard Nixon fired the special prosecutor
on a Saturday night. The white house was buried in telegrams & Nixon had to
reinstate him. That was citizens just fulfilling their role in government of & by
the people. The Supreme Court has still not corrected their ruling on the Dred
Scott case making the negros less than a full person. The current state of
Biology 101, confirms that abortion at any stage is truly murder, making
the Supreme Courts previous rulings on abortion untenable. Society is founded
on marriage between a man & a women. Homosexuals are chipping away at
the foundation. What are we going to do, or not do about it??

  • Emily Post.
Greeting = Dear …, and Closing = Yours Truly,
    also, you’re welcome, T. Shaw!

  • It was many years ago I was a young man that stood in line in New York City and waiting for the Holicost Museum to open. There was a long line of people in front of me, and as I waited there, I saw on the opposite side of the street there stood a lone individual holding a very large sign that criticised abortion. I don’t recall exactly the total writing upon the sign he carried, but it condemned the abortion clinics and what was happening to those so helpless and inocent in the womb that were scheduled for execution. The police came, and they took the lone individual’s sign, and also arrested him. How strange I thought that I would stand there and await entering the museum so to see the pictures of the suffering individuals that died at the hands of Nazi beasts. I turned and gazed at the individual standing behind me, then asked if his having already purchased an entry ticket, and he replied, “no, but I will purchase a ticket at the entry.” I gazed at the man, then gave to him my ticket, and I left with the thought in mine, “are we no better than those that murdered multi millions and cremated them in the ovens.” The number of the helpless one’s in the wombs has grown far more in number than those tortured, murdered and cremated and reduced to ashes by the Nazi Germans. How do we answer G-d when we stand before Him and plead forgivinness for our sins? I am now in my eighties, and we raised three wonderful boys, for which I thank G-d. Yet still, I remember that lone individual standing there and asking “why are we murdering the most innocent of all, those being torn from the womb and made to suffer such pain.” Remember, this is America, but what mercy still is given to those most helpless, innocent and forgotten. Can we simply look the other way? Indeed I tremble. G-d provides nations the type of government most deserved, and I believe that writing is again again upon the wall.

  • R.S’Chevalier-
A very moving and stirring testimony.
In twenty five years, if there’s a civilization left standing, will souls be in line in New York city to view the story of Americas Holocaust?
    The Abortion Holocaust.
That the lone man across the street was taken away for [ disturbing the peace? ]
Witness. His witness has moved you, as well as me.

Thank you for sharing. I will be standing outside P.P. praying the rosary and thinking of the many who have paved the way with prayers since 73′

  • powerful thoughts expressed here in these responses; thank you very much. words that especially stood out to me: “Unborn babies can cry out and be heard,
in your human hearts and,in Heaven”
“No election will ever solve . …conversion needed..”
“what are we going to do or not do about it?” and
“the writing is again again on the wall”

  • How US citizens who are blindly pro-Mr O. and those who support his policies about the unborn
, and equating same-gender sterile unions with marriage
and the heavy-handed HHS Mandate cannot see the parallel with slavery.
including using blacks to “breed” slaves and the declining populations in the USA and in much of Europe
and can recall efforts by Nazis to “breed” desired citizens with Government controlled policies,
and the same to some extent under Stalin
and not see the writing on the wall as noted in quotes above
    is a shock to me.

  • Lonethinker-

Many do have eyes yet cannot see, and ears for hearing yet cannot hear. History repeating itself.

For those who do see the writing on the wall a great responsibility. We must be in the public sphere regardless of ridicule, scorn and profiling. St. Paul knew this way perfectly.
Nothing can separate us from the Love of Christ. To walk the walk is a privilege and honor.

Please consider it if you haven’t already taken a risk for Christ.
Give the very best this YEAR OF FAITH. Give Jesus.

The Party of Gendercide and the Words of Abraham Lincoln

Thursday, May 31, AD 2012

Live Action today released a second video showing that Planned Parenthood, an organization that I have designated  Worse Than Murder, Inc, has no problem with sex selection abortions.  Go here to read my post on the first gendercide video released by Live Action.  Today the House failed to muster the two-thirds vote necessary to pass the  Prenatal Non-Discrimination Act which would have banned this unspeakable evil.  The Obama administration opposed the bill.  Obama has never found any form of abortion he opposes and Planned Parenthood has his complete allegiance.  In the House 276 Republicans voted in favor of the bill, 7 against.   Democrats voted 161 in favor of gendercide and 20 against.

The core of the Democrat party today is abortion.  The vote on gendercide demonstrates just how extreme this allegiance is.  As in the days of slavery, the Democrat party champions the notion that we can, in good conscience, ignore the rights of portions of the human race, and that the unborn, like the slaves of old, are mere property and may be destroyed at the mother’s will and whim.  The words of Lincoln should be our battle cry against this old evil in a new form:

  • BRAVO! This made me tear up! I am a sidewalk counselor for a pro-life group and everyday the media and the Left just beats us down. Thank you for posting this! God Bless you!

  • Thank you Ashley for being a sidewalk counselor. That is the most difficult, and essential, service in the pro-life cause. I tear up also when I read the words of Lincoln in the above passage.

  • This is so appalling & scary as it reminds me of China.

  • What has always perplexed me is that Catholics and Blacks, as a general rule, have always marched lockstep with democrats! Yes, the left changed the language, rewrote history and owns the rest of the media. That is the reason that most sheeple vote democrat, but how many examples do these people need to convince them that this is the party of death and destruction. These dems are really communists. Oh, and voters DO have a choice – they can always vote for the better choice on the Republican side. Educate yourselves for Goodness Sake!

Live Action Shows US The Real War on Women

Wednesday, May 30, AD 2012

Hattip to Ed Morrissey at Hot Air.  The intrepid Lila Rose and her colleagues at Live Action expose the real war on women waged by Planned Parenthood, I have designated that organization as Worse Than Murder Inc., in regard to sex selection abortions:

AUSTIN, May 29 – Today, Live Action released a new undercover video showing a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Austin, TX encouraging a woman to obtain a late-term abortion because she was purportedly carrying a girl and wanted to have a boy. The video is first in a new series titled “Gendercide: Sex-Selection in America,” exposing the practice of sex-selective abortion in the United States and how Planned Parenthood and the rest of the abortion industry facilitate the selective elimination of baby girls in the womb.

“I see that you’re saying that you want to terminate if it’s a girl, so are you just wanting to continue the pregnancy in the meantime?” a counselor named “Rebecca” offers the woman, who is purportedly still in her first trimester and cannot be certain about the gender. “The abortion covers you up until 23 weeks,” explains Rebecca, “and usually at 5 months is usually (sic) when they detect, you know, whether or not it’s a boy or a girl.” Doctors agree that the later in term a doctor performs an abortion, the greater the risk of complications.

The Planned Parenthood staffer suggests that the woman get on Medicaid in order to pay for an ultrasound to determine the gender of her baby, even though she plans to use the knowledge for an elective abortion. She also tells the woman to “just continue and try again” for the desired gender after aborting a girl, and adds, “Good luck, and I hope that you do get your boy.”

“The search-and-destroy targeting of baby girls through prenatal testing and abortion is a pandemic that is spreading across the globe,” notes Lila Rose, founder and president of Live Action. “Research proves that sex-selective abortion has now come to America. The abortion industry, led by Planned Parenthood, is a willing participant.”

Six studies in the past four years indicate that there are thousands of “missing girls” in the U.S., many from sex-selective abortion. The U.K., India, Australia, and other countries ban sex-selective abortion, but the U.S., save for three states, does not. On Wednesday, Congress will debate the Prenatal Non-Discrimination Act (PRENDA), which would ban sex-selective abortions nationally.

Obama Shout Out to Worse Than Murder, Inc

Wednesday, March 28, AD 2012

The most pro-abortion President in our nation’s history salutes Planned Parenthood aka Worse Than Murder, Inc.  Somehow he manages to do this without uttering the A word, but all Planned Parenthood supporters know that when it comes to the sacred right to kill their offspring, Obama will always have their back.  Any pro-lifer who does not think that giving this man his walking papers is priority number one this year, take a good, long, hard look at this video.

  • God gave a certain response to King Manasseh for similar crimes, and as a result, the King found himself in an Assyrian dungeon for 12 years. God does not change. Obama may find that out the hard way. Being led away into captivity by a ring through his nose is how God dealt with King Manasseh.

federal adj. – Of, constituting, or characterized by a form of government in which sovereign power is divided between a central authority and a number of constituent political units.

Will there ever be a published budget v spending or expense request reports? Maybe after the line item bailout, lending, and foreign aid, and entitlement reports … Does the Executive Branch have a fiscal year?

In other words, is he campaigning with the PP people who also have a vested interest in the private lives of citizens and is this really the business of the president?

  • Did Obama just blame the Republicans in Congress for threatening to shut down the government over Planned Parenthood funding?

  • If Pres. Obama is concerned about women’s health he would ban the hormones AKA BCP, as it is a well known fact that 1. BCPs can stimulated breast ca, and endometrial ca as well as increase the risk of deep vein thrombosis.
It is also fact that 2. Planned Parenthood does not provide breast ca. screening.
It is also fact that 3. almost every primary clinic in the USA provides screening for endometrial cancer…this is not something PPH has a monopoly on.

We citizens are not asking to close PPH, but to STOP our HARD EARNED tax money from going toward this organization that promotes the killing of infants in the womb of a mother and the doling out of the toxic drug that can be harmful to women. ie BCP.

    Dr. Byrne

  • Here’s some facts President Obama :
    – You and Harry Reid said you would shut down the government before you would defund Planned Parenthood
    – Pregnancy is not a disease
    – Abortion is Not Healthcare
    – Killing an unborn child is not part of “women’s reproductive health”……that’s murder
    – There is no problem and never was for women to get contraceptives (cheaply) in the USA if that is what they choose
    – Contraceptives and abortion are links to breast cancer (though you and PP deny it)
    – The contraceptive Pill is classified as a carcinogen and is an abortifacient in some cases
    – Letting a baby who survives an abortion die in a utility room with no medical care is Infanticide (which you support)
    – Abortion does not solve a problem for a woman…it only leads to more problems both medical and emotional
    – Republicans do NOT want to deny women healthcare…….that’s a lie!
    – You are denying religious liberty (especially to the Catholic Church) and conscience rights to promote your agenda of contraceptives, sterilization, abortifacients and abortion through your HHS mandate and ObamaCare!

    Wake Up America!!!

  • I find his thinking incomprehensible that he really believes what he was told by PP or his advisors. Is there no one who can change his thinking? I know some bishops have tired. I wonder what has caused him to be so firmly set in his thinking that he obstinately refuses to understand all the issues. I wonder what motivates him. Maybe unconsciously he wishes he was never born.

Thank you, Father Henry for these words. I have said time without number that Obama is EVIL. He is the High Priest of Satan. Just look at him talking in that strip. It gives me the shivers. May God step in and ensure this man is not re-elected in your country. Because, if he is, the entire world will suffer greviously, beginning with my own country – his father’s Motherland – where the Planned Parenthood introduced the “Culture of Death” Clauses into our new Constitution.

  • The commerce laws are written to regulate free enterprise. Government does not have authentic authority to institute free enterprise as this would be competing with the taxpayers and citizens. Obamacare pits citizen and taxpayer against citizen and taxpayer. Two thirds of the states must ratify any changes in constitutional law. The human being’s soul is created in perfect moral and legal innocence, the standard of Justice for our nation and the compelling interest of the state to defend and protect our lives, our virginity and our innocence. Roe v. Wade redefined the human being as having no rational, immortal soul, therefore no free will, no personhood, no unalienable rights, no life, no virginity, no innocence, and therefore, no JUSTICE. It seems that Roe v. Wade just redefined Obama.

Planned Parenthood Thanksgiving Talking Points

Friday, November 25, AD 2011

Ah, nothing quite says Thanksgiving like a pro-abort attempting to defend the indefensible while the turkey is being carved!  Worse Than Murder, Inc., a\k\a Planned Parenthood, lest a pro-life word be uttered around the Thanksgiving table, has some talking points for its supporters to mutter :

1. Avoid bumper speak talk. A slogan might work for a poster or a button, but in a conversation it just leads to a heated back and forth. Try to steer clear of catchall phrases—they very rarely lead to common ground or change anyone’s mind.

2. Remember the big picture. Debating when life begins or whether or not abortion is federally funded may get you nowhere. Instead focus on your shared values and the big picture—for instance, talk about how you believe everyone should be able to afford to go to the doctor, or how the decision about when and whether to become a parent is a personal one. You never know, you just may find yourself actually agreeing with your relatives.

Elections Have Consequences: Congress to Investigate Worse Than Murder, Inc.

Sunday, October 2, AD 2011

Congressman Cliff Stearns (R. Fl.) , Chairman of the investigation subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee gave Cecile Richards, President of Worse Than Murder, Inc, a/k/a Planned Parenthood, a very bad day recently when he sent her a letter asking for numerous documents.  Go here to read the letter.

This sets the stage for a full scale Congressional investigation of Worse Than Murder, Inc.  Fields of inquiry could include:

1.  The failure of Worse Than Murder, Inc to comply with laws which require reporting of possible sexual abuse of minors.

2.  Just what Worse Than Murder, Inc does with all the federal money it receives each year.

3.  The number of abortions conducted by Worse Than Murder, Inc.

4.  Subpoena of internal e-mails involving Worse Than Murder, Inc’s use of federal funds and non-compliance with laws regarding the reporting of the sexual abuse of minors.

5.   Have any federal funds been used by Worse Than Murder, Inc for political purposes?

Abby Johnson and the Still Small Voice of God

Friday, April 15, AD 2011

As faithful readers of this blog know, I am an attorney, for my sins no doubt.  It supplies me with bread and butter for my family and myself as well as an opportunity to observe the frailty, follies, crimes and, occasionally, the nobility, of the sons of Adam and the daughters of Eve.  However, that is just my day job.  For over a decade now I have also been chairman of the board of directors of the Caring Pregnancy Center located in Pontiac, Illinois in Livingston County, the county in which I live.  There, dedicated pro-life volunteers, almost all of them evangelical women, labor ceaselessly to help women in crisis  pregnancies.  In the movie the Agony and the Ecstasy Pope Julius II is depicted as saying that when he comes before God he will throw into the balance the ceiling painting of Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel against the weight of his sins and he hoped it would shorten his time in purgatory.  If such an opportunity exists for me, it will be due to my association with the Caring Pregnancy Center and their truly awe-inspiring and selfless female volunteers.

On April 14th, we held our 25th anniversary banquet which was a grand affair, with our supporters and well-wishers turning out in en masse.  I opened with a few introductory remarks where I talked about the Center and its 25 years of service to the women of Livingston County and their babies.  I also asked why we did this.  First and foremost to protect innocent human life, and, second, because we remember with Thomas Jefferson, “Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever.”  It will come as a vast shock, no doubt, to faithful readers of this blog that I somehow worked into my remarks the surrender of Fort Sumter 150 years before on April 14, 1861 and Mr. Lincoln’s remarks in his Second Inaugural Address that the terrible war the nation had been through was God’s punishment on both the North and the South for the sin of slavery.  I ended by stating that it was still possible for America to turn around and repent for the great sin of abortion and that the great words of the prophet Isaiah, as always, give us hope:  “Though your sins be as scarlet, they will be made white as snow.”

Abby Johnson was our speaker, and she gave the most effective pro-life speech I have ever heard and I have heard many over the decades.

She was funny and moving at the same time.  Her delivery was as natural as if she was talking to a next door neighbor, but every word she said was riveting.

Worse Than Murder, Inc Goes Astroturf

Friday, April 8, AD 2011

Hattip to Creative Minority ReportWorse than Murder, Inc , a/k/a Planned Parenthood, and the other denizens of the “murder is a right!” movement, must be getting desperate judging from this ad.  The Pro-aborts are subletting to Grassroots Campaigns the gaining of “volunteers” for their cause at the rate of $335-$535  a week.  Go here to have a gander at Grassroots Campaigns, and here to gain some background information on these paid “astroturfers.”  “Astroturfing” is the creation of fake groups to simulate an actual grassroots popular organization.   David Axlerod, Barack Obama’s chief campaign strategist in 2008, became a very wealthy man perfecting this political black art

  • The liberals will NOT give up baby murdering without a civil war. It took war to free the blacks. It took war to stop Hitler’s genocide of the Jews. Like it or not, these things are only resolved by war. And no, I do NOT advocate civil war. I do NOT advocate violence against baby-murderers or anyone. Such violence to me seems oxymoronic – “I’ll save babies’ lives by murdering abortionist doctors.” BUT I do note that throughout human history “the tree of liberty must be periodically refreshed by the blood of tyrannts and patriots alike. It is its own natural manure.” And that’s the way it is – sadly and regrettably.

  • “the tree of liberty must be periodically refreshed by the blood of tyrannts and patriots alike. It is its own natural manure.”

Thus spake Thomas Jefferson, a man who never served a day in the Continental Army, and whose main feat of arms as a wartime governor of Virginia was the rapidity with which he fled from a British raiding party. If Jefferson had ever seen a battlefield, I very much doubt he would have spoken so glibly about blood. I think the pro-life cause will succeed peacefully through conversion of hearts and winning elections. If there was ever a struggle where violence is completely counter productive, it is this one.

  • Your tax dollars ($750 million to PP) at work . . .

  • At the risk of derailing this thread, Donald and Paul’s exchange reminded me of this quip from Connor Cruise O’Brien: “The twentieth-century statesman whom the Thomas Jefferson of January 1793 would have admired most is Pol Pot.”

Speaking of TJ, I am going to see his “bible” today, currently being repaired. Should be fun.

  • Whether Thomas Jefferson said that famous quote or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is whether or not it is true. History says it is. I do hope that you’re right and this war can be won without bloodshed, and I do think people in the pro-life movement should be pro-life. Bombing abortion clinics and shooting abortion doctors is just as anti-life as what they do – dismember living infants in the womb. BUT it took bloodshed to free the blacks. And it took blood shed to stop the Nazis. Lord Jesus, please may it never come to that!

  • “Whether Thomas Jefferson said that famous quote or not is irrelevant. What is relevant is whether or not it is true.”

He said it; that he said it is relevant since he had no personal experience of what he was praising; and it simply is not true. Most wars have had precious little to do with liberty. Sometimes fighting for freedom or some other just cause is necessary; most of the time wars can, and should be, avoided. (As the most hawkish contributor to The American Catholic that may sound odd coming from me, but that has always been my view regarding wars.)

  • Well, Donald, maybe you’re right. I will admit that I am a coward when it comes to shedding blood. That’s why I went into the submarine service instead of the Army or Marine Corps when I was a youth. The idea of actually seeing and dodging bullets on a battlefield was horrifying to me.

  • I served in the Green Machine in peace time Paul. My main service to the defense of my country I suspect was when I was discharged from the Army. 🙂

  • Pacem. Here’s what has come to pass in our country.

“They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed, and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant, and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil.” Romans 1:28-30

And, it’s mainly funded by taxes.

PWP: “Peace is our profession.” Your sub was capable of more righteous “good works” than all the soldiers, sailors, and marines since Cain slew Abel.

  • Folks,

    Forgive me that I digress.

    T. Shaw,

Technically, I was assigned to a fast attack, not a boomer. But still, I felt not the slightest bit of moral discomfort (just physical discomfort) sleeping beside a nuclear tipped sub roc in the torpedo room (there wasn’t enough berthing space, and when you’re a junior ETN2/SS, you sleep where you can). Nuclear weapons were a necessary deterrent to the Soviet Union during the Cold War. And while I was a reactor operator back aft and not a torpedo man’s mate, I did have to learn how to load, flood and launch a weapon (we all did to get qualified “Submarine Service). If I had ever been asked to launch a nuclear weapon, then I would have done so without hesitation. I was a submarine sailor. At that time we were facing what we did not know and we kept the peace by doing what we did.

Now let it be known that I am NOT a war monger, nor would I WANT nuclear weapons launched. But I would have done my duty. Forgive the reptition: “Peace IS Our Profession,” and we kept it.

Besides, as previously explained, I was a coward. I didn’t want to face a hail of bullets on the battlefield or see soldiers disemboweled across field and stream. If I had to go, then let it be instantaneous with explosive decompression at test depth. 😉

  • Opps – I meant to say, if I had to go, then let it be with explosive compression (really not the right phrase) at test depth.

  • Sub service, Paul? Yikes. I thought it was established doctrine that the three quickest paths to insanity were dropping copious amounts of acid daily, being a tail gunner in a B-17 or B-29, and sub service (even in peace time!). Glad you made it out with more than a few marbles left.

    🙂

  • The problem with the pro abortionist of the 60’s and 70’s is that THEY are in the highest positions. They are in our government, colleges and schools, and community organizations. These people are well organized and are in positions to that enable them to “buy” votes and manipulate their followers. As Paul W P pointed out, cleaning this mess up without bloodshed is preferable but not likely.
