“I think Trump may be one of those figures in history who appears from time to time to mark the end of an era and to force it to give up its old pretences. It doesn’t necessarily mean that he knows this, or that he is considering any great alternative. It could just be an accident.”
Henry Kissinger
Go here to FT to read the interview with Kissinger. Throughout the West mainstream politicians, no matter what their parties, have failed since the end of the Cold War to come up with solutions to pressing problems, and when that happens, sooner or later, people will turn to new leaders, and a page is turned in history. The people who vehemently oppose Trump I think, at least many of them, fear in their bones that the rise of Trump means there is no going back to a world they were comfortable with. Contemporary Leftists, rather than revolutionaries, are in reality reactionaries of the deepest hue, fighting desperately to freeze in amber a May Fly moment in time.
It appears that one has to subscribe to FT in order to read the Kissinger article on living in very, very grave times.
“Contemporary Leftists, rather than revolutionaries, are in reality reactionaries of the deepest hue, fighting desperately to freeze in amber a May Fly moment in time.”. Yes.
Donald,
I believe Contemporary Leftists believe that their politics is their religion & statist government is their god. The Left thinks that they are superior to anyone who isn’t in their “club” and because of their obstensible superiority, they intend to use the force of government to save the rest of the world from the destructive habits of the inferiors around them. Trump truly messes the Leftist world view up by solving problems without Leftist help and by going against the grain of Leftist ideas of their moral and other supposed superiorities.
