Back in 69 I was twelve years old, Paul VI was Pope and Richard Nixon was President.  Jobless claims are now at the lowest level since December of 1969. Of course back then the nation had a population of 205 million and we are now a nation of 325 million. As I confirmed this week, President Trump has a capacity to annoy me with some of his nuttiness in foreign affairs, but when it comes to the economy, he is presiding over the best one in my life time.  Take a bow Mr. President, you have earned it, and a lot more Americans are earning due to your economic policies.
Go The Don.
Not only that, he is the most pro-life president for as long as I have followed US politics. Despite his human failings, and despite the expolding heads of the Dems, he is the best thing that has happened to the USA for generations.
A seriously under-reported story, tho’ there was this last month: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/01/upshot/we-ran-out-of-words-to-describe-how-good-the-jobs-numbers-are.html
Now we need the incomes to catch up, but it’s at least going in the right direction.
Anybody remember Carter’s “Misery Index”? What would it be now?
With an unemployment rate of 3.9 and an inflation rate of 2.03, the misery index would be 5.93. At the end of Carter’s administration it was 19.72. When Carter started it was 12.72. I lived through those years and the economic chaos is still fresh in my mind.
Yes, but Carter recently said Jesus would approve of some abortions. So, he has that going for him.
“That’s because everyone is working two jobs (or something).” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Dem congress candidate from NYC.
The democrat search for relevance (outside the fever swamp) continues.
Keep in mind that (they hope) the economy can turn on a dime. And, that the typical economist is wrong so often she should be a weatherperson.
Sit back and enjoy (if you can) the rampant national insanity.
David,
I don’t pretend to be an economist, but in my area I am seeing wages rising. Low skill jobs starting in the mid teens per hour.
The fact that we are beginning to experience a labor shortage should lead to a rise in wages as employers compete for employees. Of course part of any move to increase wages requires rigorous enforcement of immigration laws to keep out illegal aliens who depress wages at the bottom rungs by supplying a pool of cheap unskilled labor.
Yes, they seem to be growing. Or at least starting to. They were stagnant for so long it’s going to take a long time and a lot of catch up. And I can’t help but think everyone benefits from that in the end. I’m sure that will also include doing things to keep wages from being dragged down, though I’m no economist, so I don’t know. But hopefully we’re seeing a start.
