@Tito – Hence why every year is “year 0” for them. And why I think people grow more conservative with age – they have had time to watch the repeated failures and lies in real time in their own lives.

Thank you for this revealing information. I shall share it far and wide. Also a bit of fun. Be the first to tell me what kind of rifle this nice young lady is holding.

A dozen years ago, my oldest and best friend Mike offered me one as a gift. I suspected he did so out of a sense being one old gun in my debt when hard times interrupted the swapping of such things between us. So with a white lie, I declined to take it. No room, blah, blah. He is gone to where I shall in due time follow, and I miss the friend more and the keepsake less. By the way, the gun controllers would force us to do background checks on such transactions. Stupid!

Perhaps it would have been more generous and humble to accept the gift. Vanity?

Mr. Walsh,

That antique, auto-kinetic bringer of death looks like a Russian Mosin Nagant, bolt action rifle. The NVA and VC used them as sniper weapons. Maybe Jane Fonda brought one home as a souvenir.

I could be wrong.

Mr. Shaw
You are correct, it is n Mosin Nagant. They are interesting as many early repeaters prior to the far better Mauser developed in 1898. My response to them is similar to an interest in ancient Japanese swords. They are interesting as developments human endeavor but repellant to our awareness of the evil done with them. The rifle figured in the Russian Revolution, and the latter used in many atrocities during WW 2. Then so are the interesting automobiles used as get-away cars during the Thirties.
