So the Trump Convention begins. I predict record audiences if no other prediction is safe. I will be surprised if it is dull. Trump is an unworthy messenger of a powerful wave of discontent among the American people, a discontent that the elites in our country have done their best to ignore.  At this Convention we will get clues as to how well or poorly Trump will be riding this wave for the rest of the campaign.
The usual open thread rules apply. Be concise, be charitable and, above all be amusing.

Let’s hope the Mexican population and the white open carry population don’t clash outside. The upside is that sucker punching by mobs will be rare.
I guess it’s possible that ratings could be high, but my gut says they won’t be.
I agree with Pinky. For me, a Trump supporter, a lot of my enthusiasm has left the bubble. Not sure why.
I find it fascinating that thousands of bikers are coming.
I am originally from Pittsburgh….grew up near Cleveland….and I am glad I’m not in Cleveland these days.
As for Philadelphia next month….that’s a fate worse than death.
I woke to Melania having copied parts of Michelle Obama’s speech….or her “team” of helpers did. We have a Pope who hopes to condemn the death penalty after a commission studies it despite Romans 13:4 from the Holy Spirit saying the opposite of this Pope. We have the better of two presidential choices plagiarizing a very public speech within the most scrutinizing media culture on earth. We have Turkey arresting 6000 soldiers and firing 9000 police. We have a juvenile fornicator leading nuclear north Korea. And we have suicidal black snipers shooting police without researching which of them ever did evil if ever and if at all. And we have “black lives matter” which never mentions that blacks are aborting their own preborns at 1700 per day and shooting each other at 4000 a year….but several cases of tragic shootings by cops are what matters. It’s a bizarro world and one needs to withdraw a great deal from its news cycle…into prayer, netflix, and art. I recommend the huge ocean wave paintings of Ran Ortner…google him.
No Rennaisance painting has his level of difficulty…..half million $ a painting…someone from Pink Floyd bought two.
Bill Bannon. What you say sounds right out of Walker Percy’s sci-fi novel, ‘Love in the Ruins’ Nothing is too far fetched for life to imitate fiction. We have surely come to a pretty pass. https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/walker-percy/love-in-the-ruins/
Michael,
I never saw the word “suppurating” prior to that review.
the pope expressed an opinion , it seems, about Trump. i wonder what the pope thought of the “rules” people at the unconventional convention.
Wondering where you got that graphic of Lincoln…and what it means.
I used it originally for a talk like a pirate day translation of the Gettysburg address:
https://almostchosenpeople.wordpress.com/2014/09/22/gettysburg-address-in-pirate/
I can’t recall where I found it on the Internet. I used it because Trump reminds me of a pirate in his business practices and as a symbol that this Republican Convention will be unlike any Republican Convention before.
