PopeWatch: Ultra Conservatives

PopeWatch2-199x300-199x300-199x300

Just in case anyone is still unclear on who the Pope views as wearing the black hats:

In his most recently-published interview, Pope Francis expressed his dislike of conflict with so-called  “ultra conservative” Catholics, but added that he’s not held back by it.

“They do their work and I do mine,” the Pope said in Spanish during his interview with Joaquín Morales Solá, a journalist of the Argentine daily La Nacion, published July 3.

It was Morales who used the term “ultraconservatives” in his question.

Francis responded, saying, “I want an open, understanding Church which accompanies wounded families,” whereas ultraconservatives in the Church “say no to everything.”

However, the Roman Pontiff suggested he was undeterred by such attitudes.

“I continue my path without looking over my shoulder,” he said. “I don’t cut off heads. I have never liked doing that.”

Go here to read the rest.  Pope Francis concluded his statement by noting that nails are removed by applying pressure to the top, or they are set aside to rest in retirement.  Considering how far left the Pope is, it would be interesting to ask him which of his predecessors he viewed as ultra conservative.

“They do their work and I do mine,” the Pope said

Indeed. Such as?

Cardinal Sarah, perhaps, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship. He just made the “request” that priests who “celebrate” the mass to “celebrate” the mass ad orientem.

S. Aromaticus, in his blog, deems this revolutionary. I agree.

TWO fundamentally different directions. Not ONE as ordained by Christ, (“That they may be one as We are One”‘, repeated three times just prior to His death). Something has to give.

Augustine wrote a fabulous piece called “Rebuke and Grace” which said the opposite of Pope Francis who urges us not to confront the sinner but accompany him while he slows down gradually on robbing seven eleven stores. Augustine called that prayer and waiting…”grace” and he said rebuke is also needed as in Christ and His frequent rebukes.
I’d like the Pope to give scripture for Christ accompanying wounded people. He did accompany Mary Magdalene because she accompanied Him. He did not accompany the money changers whom he wounded with a dyi whip. He did not accompany the Samaritan woman but left her at the well after rebuke and conversation. He did not reseek and accompany the scribes and pharisees whom He called whited sepulchers. And did that lady ever accompany Bob Seger after he sang…” someday lady, you’ll accompany me”. Who is Pope Francis accompanying? …these plane pilots and plane interviewers or are they accompanying him. What is his fossil fuel total after all these trips and how can wounded people find him if they don’t fly. Is he checking on the 8 lavender graduations at 8 Catholic colleges that the Newman society reported…you know…actual administrative work? Or is he checking on Catholic hospital compliances with Catholic ethics worldwide….you know…actual administrative work instead of writing documents that seem like interviews…and to which he refers as though Aquinas wrote them.

“which he refers as though Aquinas wrote them” And so do a lot of priests! The “them vs us” attitude is widespread.
.
He seems almost to gloat about his dispatching of the “nails”
…harsh words (for such a gentle pope) thinking of the crucifixion of Jesus…
Is he comparing himself as crucified, sharing the torture Jesus suffered at the hands of the ultra conservative pharisees?
Enough of the hacking and cutting of the Body of Christ.
.
God bless and forgive our pope and by the Love of His Sacred Heart give Francis wisdom and True largeness of heart. Help us to forgive him and his co-workers as we our faults confess. Help the whole Church to be reconciled in Christ instead of being further torn. God Himself is sifting us all.

Thank you! I have not known what or how to pray. These words hit the spot!

Someone should ask him what he thinks of ultra-liberals.

How many of his predecessors would he NOT consider ultraconservative is the real question.

2 more questions for Jorge B: 1.Is Jesus ultraconservative? 2.Is it even possible for there to be an “ultra” liberal? Along the “better the devil you know lines”-perhaps we should pray for Jorge B to live long and prosper-can you even imagine who the St Gallen Mafia Heretics have lined up next? More worry-they could elect a lay person-and I say “person” because there is no rule, law, regulation, or part of morality or human decency that in any way inhibits them from doing anything, or from saying they have elected a woman, even a heretic like Sr Joan C.
