Trump and the Pitcher of Warm Spit

quote-the-vice-presidency-isn-t-worth-a-pitcher-of-warm-spit-john-nance-garner-306186

Speculation about Veep choices is no doubt much ado about nothing.  In my lifetime the only Veep choice that made a dime’s worth of difference was LBJ in 1960.  Without him I doubt that the electoral votes of Texas would have been successfully stolen for the Democrats.  However, even in that case the votes of Texas were superfluous due to Mayor Daley the Elder’s post-midnight ballot box stuffing which gave Illinois to Kennedy by 8000 “votes”.

Having said that, rumors are rampant that Trump is considering Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey and Newt Gingrich.

If Trump is looking for a man who is almost as cordially distrusted by Republicans as he is, Chris Christie is his man.  After his nomination of Romney speech in 2012 that barely mentioned Romney and his literal embrace of Obama near the end of that campaign, he would have a difficult time getting a majority of Republicans to vote for him if he were running against bubonic plague.  Cordially despised in New Jersey, the only reason I can think of for Trump to choose him is the dog-like devotion to Trump he has displayed since he became the first major Republican politician to endorse him.  That, and perhaps his record as a crime busting US Attorney.  If Trump has him play attack dog, the usual role of a Veep, his assumption of a prosecutorial stance might be of marginal assistance in highlighting some of Clinton’s crimes.  If he does become the Veep nominee, Christie will do what he perceives is good for Christie, so Trump should beware.

As for Newt Gingrich, he is a true idea man in politics.  One hundred ideas a day, ten of which are even sane.  His colorful personal history would help in Trump’s effort to nail the adulterer’s block of votes.

If these two men are manifestly unsatisfactory, and they are, what does that say?  Probably that Trump can get no one better and that Trump assumes it probably doesn’t make any difference anyway.

Who would I suggest?  Kasich of Ohio would be an interesting choice.  As governor of Ohio he might be able to bring that state to Trump, a must win for him.  If Trump hadn’t picked a meaningless fight with her, I would suggest Susan Martinez, Governor of New Mexico.  The Senator, and hog castrator, from Iowa, Joni Ernst, would be a good choice, with her military service, her colorfulness and her ability to probably deliver Iowa.

Having said all that, if Trump wants a publicity explosion to beat all publicity explosions in human history, I would advise him to nominate Sarah Palin.  It would be vastly satisfying, and I say this only half-jokingly, to see half of the mainstream media die of apoplexy on the spot.  The attacks on Palin would cause the attacks on Trump to be virtually ignored, and the campaign would have free media that even God might find difficult to comprehend.  Ah, I can dream, can’t I?

Oh please, Dear Lord Jesus, let Trump’s VP choice be Sarah Palin! I need some real laughter in my life. And imagine if they win! The epileptic fits from the liberal left will be almost worth all the disaster those two would bring! I would have such fun taunting godless liberals.

Replaying this over and over again almost makes the pairing worth it.

I’m with LQC on Palin. Look, this election is a disaster, it might as well be an entertaining one. Let us be able to laugh in between our crying fits.

If he really wanted to tick off the establishment and drive the left crazy, he should pick Cruz.

I’d actually prefer Cruz on the court instead of the White House so that kind of promise would make it MUCH easier for me to vote for Trump. Sarah Palin… oh a man can dream. lol

Unless it’s revealed the ultimate switcheroo and Hillary & Trump pick each other to be the vice president.

I’m just your average (convervative Catholic) voter and maybe I have missed it, but I haven’t seen anyone comment on the lack of geographical diversity re: the frontrunners and possibly the VP potentials for both parties. Trump I believe is a native New Yorker. Hillary isn’t but she has served as NY U.S. Senator. I have a hard time imagining for example that the rest of the nation would stomach a Trump (NY) – Christie (NJ) ticket. But maybe nobody knows much about geography anymore.

Didn’t it used to be that the parties tried to get some representation on their tickets from different parts of the country so more people could feel “included” and that they were represented ? True George W. Bush and Cheney were both from west of the Mississippi but one was from the southern part of the country and one more northern.

Speaking of JFK and LBJ, I was born during the Kennedy administration so I didn’t experience that election first-hand, but wasn’t LBJ on the ticket at least in part to assuage the non-East Coast Establishment and Non-Catholics ? — ( I voted Trump in the Texas primary despite being a resident of this state since the mid-sixties — not quite a Native Texan, just a naturalized one… : )

Chris Christi was just praised by a pro life leader for a veto of millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood in New Jersey. I prefer Mr. Donald Trump to pick Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama for his VP running mate or Maine Governor Paul Le Page both are prolife. Sadly there would be too much controversey if he chose the former Govenor of Alaska Sarah Palin. It is a shame that this Catholic blog is stumping for Hillary.

I’m from Arkansas and for VP I’m pushing our U S Senator Tom Cotton, an Iraq vet and good solid conservative! He volunteered after graduating Harvard law. Frankly… We need a military guy on the ticket!!

If it weren’t for the fact that he’s firmly in the anti-Trump camp, at least publicly, I’d like to nominate Gov. Bruce Rauner of Illinois. He and Trump have a lot in common, as both are big city gazillionaires with liberal Democratic voting records who won GOP nominations by posing as populists. Plus, if Trump wins it would get Rauner out of our hair!
