American Patrol

 

Something for the weekend:  American Patrol.  Written in 1885 by F.W. Meacham, the song achieved its greatest fame in 1942 when Glen Miller recorded a swing version:

The version at the beginning of the post is a Dixieland variant by Red Nichols and His Five Pennies.  Nichols served in the Army during World War II and was part of Major Glenn Miller’s Army Air Corps band.
