Nothing Sacred

After 30 years at the bar and a lifetime in Illinois, it takes quite a bit to shock me but this did:

A judge ordered one of Chicago’s most politically powerful labor unions to suspend picketing against 16 funeral homes last week after receiving reports that striking Teamsters had, among other things, disturbed a child’s funeral.

SCI Illinois Services, Inc., one of the nation’s largest funeral home chains, asked a district court to intervene after striking funeral directors and drivers with Teamsters Local 727 allegedly harassed grieving families.

“We are grateful that the court agreed to issue this temporary restraining order, and we are hopeful that it will help protect grieving families who are experiencing the most difficult times of their lives,” Larry Michael, managing director for SCI Illinois Services, Inc., said in a release. “While we recognize and respect the Teamsters’ right to lawfully picket, we have been shocked and saddened by their attempts to make grieving families the target of the cruel and outrageous attacks.”

The company testified in its filing that union members blocked grieving family members from leaving its parking lot, used bullhorns to shout obscenities at workers and mourners, and unleashed a German Shepard on a dead woman’s daughter and husband.

The funeral home was eventually forced to call the police when picketers allegedly disrupted a child’s funeral with laughter. The officer asked the Teamsters to leave, but protesters returned when he drove away.

“We will be here for the visitation; we will be here for your funeral,” Teamster driver Lester Plewa allegedly shouted into a bullhorn as a funeral director met with a dying man planning his arrangements with family members.

The appellate court ordered the Teamsters on July 25 to “refrain from conveying any actual or veiled threats against any person, also, refrain from obstructing, hindering, impeding or blocking any person’s entry to or exit from any funeral site or any facility containing a funeral site.”

The Teamsters have been on strike since July 1 after rejecting the company’s offer of nine percent raises for all union members over the next two years.

Go here to The Washington Free Beacon to read the rest.  Let’s see, the Teamsters are disrupting funerals because, in this miserable economy, brought on in no small part by politicians they help to elect, they are only getting a nine percent raise over two years.  My heart bleeds for these thugs.

Nine percent isn’t enough?

President Alinsky is leading them to a “place” where every man is an enemy to every man and where hordes of destitute dependents viciously attack and rip at each other.

H. L. Mencken said, “”Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.”

By the way, when did “getting a yearly raise” become a fundamental right of the working man? I was under the impression that raises were things you got when the business was doing particularly well and/or you were doing an exceptional job; not something you’re just entitled to by dint of having a job.

There are no words to describe the pettiness and evil of these people.

I resonate most strongly with T. Shaw’s comment about “President Alinsky” leading the country to a future where every one is an enemy of everyone else. His pernicious “vision”of what American society should be isn’t fit for the name “democracy.” He is forming a nation of dolts who have no respect for themselves or for anyone else, and who feel entitled to use their rage over what they perceive as the least infringement of personal desire to punish anyone who interferes with them. At the same time, he over-arches this state-driven attitude with strong-arm enforcements of authoritarian dictates. One thing clashes with another while King Obama sits back with Queen Michelle and fiddles while the country burns with resentment, rages, and all kinds of hatreds born out of frustration and disrespect. He wouldn’t feel so superior if he could get out of his bubble and really see what life is like for most people in the once-United States of America. It will take us years to recover from King Obama’s time in office. Pray God (yes, God) to help us recognize a new candidate for this office with the qualities of statesmanship, fairness, concern for all, and the humility to accept good counsel when the next election comes around. Obama has rhetoric and no governing skill. An agenda which is anti-American principles. We are not only spinning our wheels under him, but those wheels are stuck in the mud. What a waste and what a shame, a real shame on us for not recognizing this hollow man after the first four years.

I really wish I was surprised.

They’re just bullies– and bullies pick the most vulnerable targets, then blame others for not doing what was demanded and thus “forcing” the bully to do it.
