Students at Williams College this year are taking part in an experimental course on the history of American presidents from Washington and Lincoln by producing political attack ads. Go here for a report on this novel way of learning about American history.
I applaud the imagination behind this course. Too often history is taught with all the life drained from it. I think this is an excellent way of teaching students that the political struggles of the past for the presidency are not mere dusty dates to be remembered for a course and quickly forgotten, but that they were conflicts of ideas that have ramifications still being played out today. Bravo!
